Ibeje There are many land uses applied at Ikeduru L.G.A. in Imo State, Department of Civil Nigeria, thus, the area is selected as a case study. The objective of Engineering, Imo State University, P.M.B. 2000, study is to determine the effects of land use on infiltration by three Owerri, Nigeria. different land use types; 34 of them are in farmlands, 34 in Bamboo field and 32 in forestlands. Within each land use type, multiple regression are used to determine degree of association between the rates of infiltration, moisture content, porosity, bulk density and particle sizes. Non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance is used to determine whether significant differences in infiltration rates existed between different land uses. The mean steady state infiltration rate of farmlands, bamboo fields and forestland are 1.98 cm/h, 2.44cm/h and 2.43cm/h respectively. The regression model shows that infiltration rate decreases with increase in moisture content and bulk density but increases with the increase of soil particle sizes and porosity. -

Soil samples were collected randomly from Cassava farm, Bamboo field, Fallow land and sparse grassland and were analysed for moisture content, particle size distribution, textural class, organic matter content, permeability and aggregate structure using oven drying method, sieve analysis, triangular chart, and permeability/soil type table. Laboratory results were subjected to statistical analyses. Narrow variation was seen in all the particle size distribution (ranged from 25.10 – 35.15) with samples from sparse grass land vegetation having the least value (35.20), samples from cassava farm and bamboo field had their values as 35.15 and 29.40 respectively. The clay, silt and MC had a negative non-significant relationship with the erodibility status with values of correlation -.412, -.532 and -.836 respectively. While sand percentage content had a positive non significant relationship with erodibility factor K having the values of .670. OMC percentage content had a high positive significant relationship with erodibility factor K, with the value of correlation as 1.000**. There was a high level of significance between clay, silt, sand, OMC, and MC with values of correlation as -.753**, -.714**, -.831**, and .955** respectively. -

A total of ten (10) geoelectric soundings were acquired. Schlumberger electrode configuration was used in acquiring the data. Six to seven geoelectric layers were delineated from the interpreted results, the Aquifers were delineated between the fifth and sixth geoelectric layers, having an apparent resistivity above 1000Ωm, with the highest thick of 69.0m at a depth of 144.0m. Longitudinal Conductance, Hydraulic Conductivity, Transmissivity and Product Conductance range are as followings for the aquifers; 1.720 – 127.000 x 10-3Ω-1, 15.90 – 188.79m/day, 1093.3 – 1097.1m2/day and 2.590 – 252.50 x 10-3 respectively. Inferring from our hydraulic parameters, all the aquiferous zones have very high designation, wwithdrawal of great regional importance of groundwater supply potential and practically noncorrosive, soil corrosivity. 40% percentage of the aquiferous units have very good protective capacity, while for excellent and good protective capacity of the study are is 30%. All the VES points are said to be a very viable potential for safe source for groundwater exploration. -

APPENDIX 1.2 - TERMS OF REFERENCE Terms of Reference for Consultant services in accordance with the EITI Standard 2013 OIL & GAS AUDIT TERMS OF REFERENCE (SCOPE OF WORK) Consultancy for the 2013 EITI Report - Nigeria Approved by the NSWG on 11th December 2013 1. BACKGROUND The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is a global standard that promotes revenue transparency and accountability in the oil, gas and mining sectors. It has a robust yet flexible methodology for disclosing and reconciling company payments and government revenues in implementing countries. The EITI process may be extended and adapted to meet the information needs of stakeholders. EITI implementation has two core components: • Transparency: oil, gas and mining companies disclose their payments to the government, and the government discloses its receipts. The figures are reconciled by a Consultant, and published in annual EITI Reports alongside contextual information about the oil and gas sector. • Accountability: a multi-stakeholder group with representatives from government, companies and civil society is established to oversee the process and communicate the findings of the EITI Report. It is a requirement that the Consultant is perceived by the multi-stakeholder group to be credible, trustworthy and technically competent (Requirement 5.1). The Consultant’s report will be submitted to the NSGW for approval and made publically available. The requirements for implementing countries are set out in the EITI Standard1. Additional information is available via www.eiti.org By the EITI rules, implementing countries are required to publish their annual reports for the period not later than two preceding years. The Oil and Gas Industry Audit 2013 Report must be published by the end of the 2014 to ensure Nigeria meets the EITI Standard. -

Ahmad Department of forestry and fisheries, Abstract Usmanu Danfodiyo University Knowledge of the fishing methods and the fish stock of some major water bodies in Katsina State is Sokoto, Nigeria. important for use in appraising the fisheries potential in the areas and similar ecosystem subject to similar F.U. Shagari ecological pressure. The study was carried in three water bodies: Ajiwa dam, Ajiwa; Jibiya dam, Jibiya Department of forestry and fisheries, Local government and Zobe dam, Dutsinma Local government. During the study, the fishermen’s catches Usmanu Danfodiyo University and fishing activities were recorded. The fish species at the landing site were identified using keys by Sokoto, Nigeria. Reed et al., (1967) and some pamphlets (species summary). Fish species composition recorded in Ajiwa dam belongs to 5 families: Bagridae (17.8%), Claridae (19.4%), Cichlidae (28.9%), Momyridae (13.8%) A.N. Sani and Schilbedae (20.0%). In addition to the 5 families of fish species in Ajiwa dam, the catches in Jibiya Department of forestry and fisheries, dam composed of Characidae (3.0%), Cyprinidae (1.0%) and Mochokidae (7.5%), while those of Zobe Usmanu Danfodiyo University dam composed of Characidae (2.5%). In all, the water bodies, Cichlidae made up the highest percentage Sokoto, Nigeria. -

The need to make its availability sustainable all year round using dams is another man’s creative ingenuity that may have favourable or unfavourable effects. The study examined the effect of Jibiya dam on income generating activities of rural dwellers of Jibiya Local Government Area of Katsina State. Multi stage sampling procedure was used to generate 120 rural dwellers and information on their socio-economic characteristics, income generating activities and perceived effect was collected using structured interview schedule. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Most (29.2%) respondents were between 21-30 years, married (85.0%), had Quranic education (59.2%) and mean household size of 7 people. Gathering non-fish aquatic products (95.8%), processing of fish and other aquatic products (95.0%), hunting (94.2%), fishing (94.2%) and basket making (92.5%) were the income generating activities most respondents were involved. Majority (55.0%) perceived the effect of the dam on their income generating activities to be favourable. -

From the humble beginning to the present day, the progress has been monumental. This change in time and space is traced in this report. I However some precious natural incidences (climatic and human) has made it necessary to acquire data for proper planning of water resources management I in Nigeria. Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa with an estimated population of about 110 million is situated along the coast of West Africa between longitudes I 4°E and 14°E and latitudes 4°N and 14°N. The land area is estimated at about 92.4 million hectares, out of which 35% is classified cultivable/arable land while the remaining constitute pastures, forest reserve and non cultivable I land. The rainfall throughout the country varies from minimum in the extreme North - I East to the maximum in the southern part of the country. In the latter, the rainfall tends to decrease towards the South - East and South - West and the I occurrence of a short dry season, in July - August in the latter area.
