In this Panel Discussion, three senior executive professionals discuss their personal journeys, their motivations and what opportunities that see for engineers working in Qatar. Mr. EL-Jerbi is a renowned executive in the construction industry with multidisciplinary background. He began is construction career with Consolidated Contractor Company (CCC) in Yemen in 1990 where he was involved in Buildings as well as Oil & Gas projects delivery. In 1995, he transferred to CCC’s head office in Athens-Greece where he took roles on various projects & tenders in various countries as a Senior Project Coordinator in the Construction Support division.

In 2002, he completed a Masters of Engineering Science degree in Construction Management from the University of New South Wales Australia (NSW) & soon after he migrated to Australia & started working with McConnell Dowell Constructors as Controls Manager. In 2005, he transferred to work with Bluescope Steel in Indonesia as Project Controls Manager for a capital development project & in 2006 he rejoined CCC Qatar as Project Manager to lead the construction of LNG Mega Trains & subsequently managed various Oi & Gas projects in Qatar. In 2008 he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from University of Leicester UK. In 2017 he was appointed the Area Managing Director of CCC in Qatar.

Bassam Halabi GHD - General Manager - Qatar

Mr. Halabi has over 30 years of civil & environmental engineering experience mainly in water infrastructure & network operations management. His key experience area includes: • Water Networks- Operational Planning, Control & Benchmarking • Water Infrastructure Planning Studies • Water Supply Modelling • Fire Fighting Assessment & Studies • Water Quality & Public Health Management • Water Networks Vulnerability & Reliability Assessment • Emergency Response Planning for Water Infrastructure • Leakage & Pressure • Management Studies • Water Demand Management Studies • Design of Water Infrastructure • Project Management

Bassam is having a Master of Engineering Studies (with Merit), Environmental & Management from University of Auckland, New Zealand. Bachelor of Science in from University of Baghdad, Iraq & International Professional Engineer; Member of Professional Engineers New Zealand since 1998. He joined GHD New Zealand in year 2004 & moved to GHD Qatar in year 2012 & became GHD Qatar office’s General Manager in year 2015.

Mr. Andries Fourie Aurecon - Country Manager - Qatar

Mr. Fourie is a dedicated Professional Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in Design & Project management of both Infrastructure & Built Environment projects in , Africa & the Middle East of which 11 years are in the GCC & North Africa environment.

In the Middle East, Andre has successfully managed various projects in the Built and Infrastructure Environment & is currently the Country Manager for Aurecon in Qatar, looking after operations & business development.

Andre has been responsible for the management of projects from both design & construction perspective for various government & non-governmental entities. His areas of focus being Project Management, Interface Management, Right of Way Management & Design Management.

He has been responsible for project management of numerous projects in South Africa, with focus shifting to Project Management, Interface & Design Management within the Middle Eastern Environment. These projects varied from small to multimillion-dollar Projects.

In Libya, Andre was Deputy Office Manager, managing commercial & operational issues related to both establishing a new office as well as proposals for potential projects. Business Development included management of the interface with potential clients, relationship development, risk analysis & developing opportunities.
