Abstract: Pseudophoxinusalii isanewspeciesdescribedfrom3waterbodies(AksuRiver,andIl›caandKömürcülerstreams)inthe Antalyaregion,Turkey.Thisnewspeciesisdistinguishedfromotherlarge-scaledspeciesof Pseudophoxinus inhaving41-44scales inlateralseries,commonly14predorsalvertebrae,andlargeeyediameter(26%-32%HL).

Ladiges(1960)andKaraman(1972)basedonthese egridiri, whichshare,inparticular,areducedtypeof collectionspublishedearliercontributedtoour cephalicsensorycanalsystemandareducednumberof understandingofCyprinidsfromAnatolia.Bogutskaya vertebrae.Threenewspeciesbelongingtothisgroup (1992,1997a)described10 Pseudophoxinus species havebeenrecentlydescribed(Bogutskayaetal.,2007): fromAnatoliabasedonthemuseumcollectionsacross P.elizavetae,P.zekayi, andP.firati. Europe.Inherstudies,besidetraditionalmorphological Thesecondlineageisrepresentedby P.meandricus characters,Bogutskayahypothesizedon thephylogenetic andP.antalyae, bothofwhicharecharacterizedbyaless relationshipsofAnatolian Pseudophoxinusspeciesbased reducedsensorycanalsystem.Finally,thethirdlineage oncharactersofthesensorycanalsystemandcranial includes P.handlirschi,P.anatolicus , and P.crassus , bones. ThesestudiesconcludedthattheAnatolian whichsharesuchsynapomorphiesassmallscales,high Pseudophoxinus speciesexhibitalargevariabilityofthe numberofvertebrae,andincreasednumberofsensory cephalicsensorycanalstructureandconfigurationofthe canalpores(Bogutskaya,1992).The

Bodyprofileisconvexbetweentheheadand vertebrae16(7),17(5).Vertebralformulais21+16(1), thebeginningofthedorsalfin.Predorsaldistanceis 22+16(4),22+17(3),23+16(1);abdominalvertebrae 53%-58%SL; postorbitallengthis44%-53%HL(1.4- 56%-58%of totalvertebrae. 2.0 timesofeyediameter);headlengthis25%-28%SL Coloration: Thenaturalcolorofspecimensisgreenish (3.1-3.7timesofeyediameter);headdepthatnapeis brownatthedorsalside,anddarksilveryattheventral. 69%-89%HL(1.4-1.5 timesof headwidthatnape). Thereisaconsiderablebandoriginatingfrombehindthe Caudalfinisdeeplyforked. ofthetownofManavgatanddrainintothe onlycaughtfromtheIlıcaandKömürcülerstreamsand MediterraneanSea.Theriparianvegetationofthe15-to theKaraözsectionofAksuRiver,suggestingthatthe 17-km-longstreamincludesemergentaquaticplantsand rangeofthespeciesisverylimited.Fishspeciesfoundat othertrees.Thebottomofthestreamiscoveredwith thesomelocalities(AksuRiver)included P.alii,Anguilla sand,gravelandpartlymud.AksuRiverisabout140km anguilla,Cyprinuscarpio,Capoetaantalyensis,Vimba longandbeginsfromE¤irdirandKovadaLakes.The vimba,Clariasgariepinus , and Aphaniusmento. The bottomoftheKaraözregionofAksuRiveriscompletely specieslivingintheIlıcaandKömürcülerstreamsare A. coveredwithgravelandsand,anditsriparianvegetation anguilla,Capoetaangorae,Alburnusbaliki , and Salaria alsoincludesemergentaquaticplants(Figure2).P.alii is fluviatilis.
