A Census of Ireland, Circa 1659 With Supplementing Materials From the Poll Money Ordinance as transcribed from Pender’s printed and published edition of the Petty Census of 1659 by Cecilia L. Fabos-Becker, July, 2014 Part 1 of several parts to follow Surnames: Campbells, McCormicks, Wallaces, Wood’s, and Woods NOTE: In 2020, the entire surviving "census," that is, the 1659 Hearth Tax Rolls, were digitized and uploaded by Clan Maclochlainn. You will find the link under "Sources." However, if you want a quick look-up of a number of Scottish names, then these extracts, made before 2020, may be helpful to you. Seamus Pender, 1939, Dublin, Ireland, Published by the Stationery Office, “to be purchased directly from the Government Publications Sales Office, 3-4 College Street, Dublin, Ireland” Introduction (excerpts): In 1864, W.H. Harding announced before the Irish Royal Academy the discovery of what has been called “The Census of Ireland (1659).” He found the manuscripts in the Muniment Room of the Marquess of Lansdowne, at Lansdowne House in London, England. He made (handwritten) copies of the manuscripts before returning them to their owner. The copies are now in the Library of the Royal Irish Academy, as paper volumes 12" x 15" in size. .... Five entire counties are missing from the returns since their creation and spoilage: Cavan, Galway, Mayo, Tyrone and Wicklow. Additionally, four baronies are missing from County Corke, and nine baronies are missing from County Meath. Harding believed some sections were literally torn apart and used as kindling for household fires by servants, at times.

  • December 2020 Newsletter
Parishes of Swords Clonmethan Kilsallaghan Donabate and Lusk Newsletter December 2020 Notes from the Rector Illness We continue to remember in our prayers all those who are ill. In particular at this time, we pray for Jean Ellerker, Peter McMurtry, Cecil Lee and Agnes Wilson. Parish Registers – Bereavement – Maud Keogh Deepest sympathy is extended to the Keogh and Lee families on the death of Maud Keogh. Maud spent the last six weeks of her life at her home in Ballyboughal under the loving care of her family. Maud was known as an artist who won a number of awards, and was involved with the Flavours of Fingal festival. She was originally from Donabate, was a great supporter of the annual Church Fete there and also supported fundraising events for Saint Columba's Church in Swords. She was the beloved wife of the late Paddy Keogh, and is sadly missed by her loving children Helga, Glenn, Vanessa, Leigh, Sorrell and Ashley, also her brothers Cecil and John, sister-in-law Doreen Lee, and the wider family. The Rector led a service of thanksgiving for her life, which took place on Monday the 26th October at her home, followed by interment at Saint Mary's, Clonmethan. May the peace and love of God continue to surround you all. Remembrance Sunday For Remembrance Sunday this year, we had a YouTube online service to remember all those who lost their lives in the two great wars of the 20th Century and in all conflicts since. Special thanks go to David Scott who sang 'Abide With Me' so beautifully for the service which included scenes of the square and round tower at Saint Columba's Church and also beautiful scenes of North County Dublin.

  • A GUIDE to SEA ANGLING in the EASTERN FISHERIES REGION by Norman Dunlop
A GUIDE TO SEA ANGLING IN THE EASTERN FISHERIES REGION by Norman Dunlop Published by; the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board, 15A, Main Street, Blackrock, Co. Dublin. © Copyright reserved. No part of the text, maps or diagrams may be used or copied without the permission of the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board. 2009 Foreword I am delighted to welcome you to the Board’s new publication on sea fishing Ireland’s east and south east coast. Sea angling is available along the entire coastline from Dundalk in County Louth to Ballyteigue Bay in County Wexford. You will find many fantastic venues and a multitude of species throughout the region. Whether fishing from the shore or from a licenced charter boat there is terrific sport to be had, and small boat operators will find many suitable slipways for their vessels. At venues such as Cahore in Co. Wexford small boat anglers battle with fast running Tope, Smoothhound, and Ray. Kilmore Quay in South Wexford is a centre of excellence for angling boasting all types of fishing for the angler. There is a great selection of chartered boats and the facilities for small boat fishing are second to none. Anglers can go reef fishing for Pollack, Wrasse, Cod, and Ling. From springtime onwards at various venues shore anglers lure, fly, and bait fish for the hard fighting Bass, while specialist anglers target summer Mullet and winter Flounder. In recent years black bream have been turning up in good numbers in the Wexford area and this species has recently been added to the Irish specimen fish listing.
