Patriot League Announces Men’s Academic Honor Roll 40 student-athletes receive Honor Roll recognition

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Patriot League champion Bucknell placed 11 student-athletes on the Men’s Basketball Academic Honor Roll on Monday, including Scholar-Athlete of the Year Mike Muscala.

The eight Patriot League schools combined to place 40 student-athletes on the list, with American matching Bucknell with 11 honorees.

Muscala, a Management major, posted a 3.78 grade-point average in his final semester at Bucknell. He now awaits the 2013 NBA Draft on Thursday night, where Muscala is projected to be selected in the late first or early second round. Muscala was one of four student-athletes to make the Academic Honor Roll after also landing a spot on the Men’s Basketball Academic All- Patriot League Team in March. His teammate, Bryson Johnson, was also in that group along with Lehigh’s Gabe Knutson and Lafayette’s Joey Ptasinski.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League’s winter or spring championship sports.

“Today’s Scholar-Athletes, Tomorrow’s Leaders” – The Patriot League continually demonstrates that student-athletes can excel at both academics and athletics without sacrificing its high standards. The Patriot League’s athletic success is achieved while its member institutions remain committed to its founding principle of admitting and graduating student-athletes that are academically representative of their class. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of a well-rounded education.
