EUROPEAN BEST PERFORMANCES NONSTADIA - ROAD RUN and ROAD WALK 2015 Compiled by Ivar Söderlind, Statistician of EMA (150915) EUROPEAN BEST PERFORMANCES NONSTADIA - ROAD RUN AND ROAD WALK 2015 compiled by Ivar Söderlind, statistician of EMA (150915) I have worked with the European Records/Best Performances in 27 years (started in July 1988), Since June 2000, when I and the Swedish webmaster Åke Runnman started the EVAA Web Site, I have also compiled and reported the European Records on Web Site. In 2012 we started the Data Base of the Championships Records in EVAA Website. I really believe that the Data Base and the EMA Record Team with me, Giusy Lacava from Italy and Miroslaw Luniewski from Poland is a step in the right direction in pace with times. I will as all my previous years as Record Statistician and after a delay, continue to report on the new EMA Web Site and also send out my printable record lists with my comments to my contact friends some times a year, all with the aim to have the record list more complete. Please check the list given below and help us in the Record Team to make it more complete. In 2015, up to September 15, we have registered 6 new European Best (3 world Best) noted 2015. In 2015 we also have registered 2 European Best noted 2002 and 2012 (M75 and M80 Marathon). We have 6 more results (a) which shall be ratified as European Record when/if all record forms/documents are received and ratified by EMA. In 2014 we registered 6 new or modified European Best Performance (2 World Best) and 2013 10 new or modified European Best Performance (7 World Best)in Nonstadia events. This can be compared to 2012 when we totally noted 14 new or modified European Best Performance (9 World Best). Another 7 results (a) will be ratified as European Best when/if all records forms are received and ratified by EVAA. IAAF has decided that Official Records shall be noted for Road Run and Road Walk. As it often is uncertain when and in which way official measurement of road distances is realized, especially in former Road Competitions, we continue with Best Performance in this European List. The problem of correct measurement is difficult especially in 10 km Road Run and in the Road Walk distances. We will discuss this matter more in WMA and EMA. Some of the results for Road Walk in my earlier Record Lists are from Track Walk. The competitions in my list are 10 km run (road), Half Marathon, Marathon and Road Walk 10 km, 20 Km and 30 km (distances in European Championships). When two or more results are noted in one age group and event the first noted result is the official best performance. We ask you to check the list given below and make it more complete. Please alter or complete in the list and inform me as soon as possible (preferably by email [email protected]).Please report all new Best Performances by EMA:s Record Application!! Welcome to the official EMA Web Site: www.evaa.ch WB = World Best * = new Best Performance registered in 2014 * = new Best Performance registered in 2015 a = not yet officially ratified Best • — Berlin Marathon: World Record for Kipsang —
Volume 12, No. 57 September 30, 2013 — Berlin Marathon: World Record For Kipsang — by Sean Hartnett Berlin, Germany; September 29— The 40th BMW Berlin Marathon began with a celebration of the 7 runners who had previously achieved World Records over the city’s über- quick route. Wilson Kipsang joined this illus- trious club as the lanky Kenyan hit autobahn speed over the final 2.2 ki- lometers to drop the all-time best to a stunning 2:03:23. (Technically, Geof- frey Mutai is the “fastest” ever with his aided-course 2:03:02 from Boston ’11). “I am feeling very happy as the World Record holder in the mara- thon,” Kipsang admitted. “I’m the man now.” With this win and record, the 31-year-old Kipsang also became the first to run under 2:04 twice as he now possesses the event’s Nos. 1 & 3 clockings, bracketing Patrick Makau’s vanquished record of 2:03:38. Runner-up Eliud Kipchoge (2:04:05) also jumped high in the all- time rankings as his second marathon effort moved him to No. 4 ever, with the No. 5 performance. And he be- came the fastest non-winner ever. The record chase was on from the start, as would be expected, with for- mer recordsetter Haile Gebrselassie pulling the gun’s trigger. Dashing off into the still cool air the lead pack blasted a 2:47 opening kilometer before settling into a crisp tempo over a 61:34 opening half (see p. 563 for a complete charting of Kip- sang’s kilos).
