David Asper is a lawyer, business-person and philanthropist based in Canada. He is a recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his community service, the Arbor Award for Outstanding Voluntary Service to the University of Toronto and, in Law School, he was a recipient of the Corpus Juris Secundum Award for the promotion of academic achievement in others.

Starting his career as a lawyer, Mr. Asper focused primarily on criminal defence litigation including successfully representing in overturning one of Canada's most notorious wrongful conviction cases.

In business he is co-founder and Chair of Amenity Healthcare Ltd. which owns and operates a chain of independent pharmacies in Manitoba and . He also invests in Real Estate and is an investor in the Manitoba Technology Accelerator program where he serves on the Boards of Cubresa Inc. and Arterial Stiffness Inc., which are developing leading edge life science technologies. Mr. Asper has also invested in the Broadway revival of the Tony Award winning musical Pippin, a London based critically acclaimed and award winning revival of The Scottsboro Boys and the forthcoming Broadway revival of On the Town. Previously, Asper served as Chair of the newspaper and in various executive or governance positions at Media in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In this role he oversaw precedent-setting litigation dealing with media constitutional rights in Canada. Following completion of his Masters of Law at the University of Toronto, Asper served as Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law. He taught Criminal Law, Professional Responsibility, Introduction to Advocacy and oversaw internship students in the University Law Centre clinic. He also supervised and directed student research regarding consent in Sexual Assault cases and the establishment of a permanent archive for Canadian Wrongful Conviction cases. He continues to lecture and comment in popular media on legal matters, and serves on the Law Society of Manitoba Articling Task Force Committee.

In philanthropy and public service, Mr. Asper is Chair of the Asper Foundation, which is one of Canada's largest private foundations. He is also Vice-Chair of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club, a member of the Board of the Pan Am Clinic Foundation and is Co-Chairing the 2015 CFL Grey Cup Championship Festival Committee for Winnipeg. Through his philanthropy Asper provided the lead gift to establish the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights at the University of Toronto, which is the only centre of its kind in Canada. He has also established major endowments at the University of Manitoba, United Way and the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.

Past community involvement includes President of the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Chairman of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Vice-Chair of the Canadian Football League Board of Governors, Governor and Vice-Chair at St. John's Ravenscourt School, member of the University of Toronto Governing Council and a member of the Board of the Canadian Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre.
