NISHIKORI, BERDYCH, MONFILS, HAAS HIGHLIGHT DAY TWO ACTION

 DAY 2 PREVIEW: A jam-packed Tuesday schedule includes 10 singles matches, highlighted by seven seeds in action -- No. 2 Kei Nishikori, No. 3/2007 champion Tomas Berdych, No. 4 Gael Monfils, No. 5 , No. 6 , No. 7 and No. 8 Ivo Karlovic.In the opening match on Stadion, Austrian and Nishikori, who reached the semi-finals here last year, meet for the first time. In the next match, Lukas Rosol makes his Halle debut against Monfils, who won the previous meeting in a SF dead rubber last year. In the third match on, and former two-time Halle winner square off for the sixth time (Haas leads 4-1). They split their previous two meetings here in 2006 and ’11. In the final match on, Berdych and Victor Estrella Burgos of Dominican Republic meet for the first time. On Court 1, Tomic leads off against , followed by Jiri Vesely and , Cuevas against and Robredo against qualifier Ricardas Berankis.

 KEI ON GRASS: Nishikori is making his third straight appearance in Halle and last year he reached his second career grass court SF (’11 Eastbourne), losing to Federer. He then followed with a personal-best 4R showing at Wimbledon (l. to Raonic). He has a 20-17 career record on grass. This season the Japanese star is 34-8 with repeat titles in Memphis and Barcelona. He is coming off a career-best QF at Roland Garros (l. to Tsonga in five sets). He reached a career-high No. 4 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on March 2.

 BERDYCH IN FINE FORM – Berdych is putting together another consistent season on the ATP World Tour with a 35-10 match record. The 29-year-old native has reached three finals this season (Doha, Rotterdam, Monte-Carlo) and overall the QFs or better in nine of 10 tournaments. The only time he did not reach the QFs came at Roland Garros (4R). Berdych is playing in Halle for the first time since 2012 and the seventh time overall (14-5). He reached the final in his debut in 2006 (l. to Federer) and won the title in ’07 (d. Baghdatis).

 TOMMY RETURNS – Haas, who is the oldest player in the singles draw at 37, is making his 14th appearance in Halle (26-11 record). The Hamburg native made his Halle debut in 1997 (d. Ulihrach, l. to Tarango). He is a two-time winner (2009 d. Djokovic, ’12 d. Federer). Last week he returned to action for the first time this season in Stuttgart (d. Kukushkin, l. to Tomic in 2R) after undergoing right shoulder surgery on June 17, 2014.
