DAY 1 - Arrival in Lisbon and enjoy a dinner and show, Lisbon’s unique musical expression.

DAY 2 - LISBON Pick up your car today and take a morning tour to the suburb of Belem, visit the Torre de Belem, the Jeronimos Monastery and the Monument to the Discoveries. Stop at the famous “Casa Pasteis de Belem” to sample a delicious pastel de nata or Portuguese custard tart. Overnight in Lisbon.

DAY 3 - LISBON - - OBIDOS Travel along the scenic coast to and as you wind your way north toward beautiful Sintra for a visit. Sintra is a regional town of great beauty set in an oasis of pine woods and exotic gardens in a barren and rocky landscape. Sintra has a splendid (formerly a Royal residence), a castle of moorish origin from the 8th century and the with its surprising variety of architectural styles. Continue to Obidos, Portugal’s whitewashed town surrounding a castle. Overnight in Obidos.

DAY 4 - OBIDOS Full day at leisure in Obidos, an enchanting medieval fortified town dating right back to Celtic times. Entrance is gained via one of four gates in the wall, taking you in to the enchanting town of tiny winding streets, whitewashed houses and flower boxes brimming with colour. Overnight in Obidos.

DAY 5 - OBIDOS - Today you head north to Coimbra. You travel via some gorgeous, historic towns, such as Alcobaça, , Batalha and Pombal. Continue to Coimbra, Portugal’s first true capital, for a lunch stop. Located on the banks of the , the town is found high above the river, where there are cathedrals, the first ever Portuguese university and many excellent museums. Overnight in Coimbra.

DAY 6 - COIMBRA - - PINHAO Head north through Viseu and into the beautiful Valley. Home of the famous wine region where the rolling hills of the valley are lined with vines and famous port wine estates. Stop at Lamego for a brief visit of the town famous for its port and portugal’s first sparkling wine. Head to nearby Pinhao for overnight.

DAY 7 - PINHAO Full day at leisure. Pinhão is a small town famous for its quality port-wine production that is surrounded by vineyards. Take a short day trip northeast to Favaios to taste some moscatel, one of only two produced in Portugal. Overnight Pinhao.

DAY 8 - PINHAO - VILA REAL - GUIMARAES Travel north again to Vila Real for a visit of the beautiful Casa de Mateus, Built in the first half of the 18th century. This palace set in beautiful gardens on an immense farm is one of the finest examples of civil architecture in Portugal. Continue on to Guimarães for the night.

DAY 9 - GUIMARAES Spend a full day discovering this delightful regional town. Guimarães is known as the birthplace of the nation. In the city centre, the narrow streets of the medieval quarter are ideal for exploration on foot. Wander the cobbled Rua de Santa Maria, the main square, the Largo da Oliveira, the Paço dos Duques and the Guimarães castle. Overnight in Guimarães.

DAY 10 - GUIMARAES - A short drive takes you to Oporto, the heart of the north of the country. Situated on the bank of the river Douro, Oporto is one of the oldest cities in the entire Peninsula. Known as the “unconquered city”, derived from its known bravery in fighting off all invaders, it is also the centre of an internationally important wine industry. Overnight in Porto.

DAY 11 - PORTO Take a morning tour of the city. The heart of the city is the wide Av dos Aliados, which runs five blocks inland from the river. Visit the cathedral, the church of San Francisco and the Palacio da Bolsa. Free afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Porto.

DAY 12 - PORTO Depart from Porto airport home.
