Adhesive Chemist, Applications & Business Development: Neville Chemical Company is a major manufacturer of Hydrocarbon with a 90 + year history in the . Resins are low molecular weight that are used extensively in the formulation of and , and , Inks, Tire and Industrial Rubber products. Hydrocarbon resins are key components that enhance the processing and end-use performance of these products. We are currently recruiting for a full-time Adhesive Chemist, Applications and Business Development in our Research & Development Division at our Neville Island, Pennsylvania facility.

This position is primarily responsible for developing and assessing new adhesive products and adhesive formulations to demonstrate the benefits and value in support of Neville’s efforts for sustained and profitable growth in the adhesive and sealants market.

The successful candidate will:

• Manage the Adhesive Applications Lab. • Lead and manage adhesive projects. • Develop applications literature. • Develop, assess, communicate, recommend and perform all aspects of R&D project work such as adhesive and adhesive material formulation and application testing. • Evaluate materials and finished products using a wide array of techniques and instrumentation, including Dynamic Shear Rheometer, report findings and make recommendations for suitability of use. • Initiate, coordinate, supervise and/or perform tasks and projects related to application of our products in . Ensure lab work assigned to laboratory personnel is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Train and provide assistance to adhesive chemists and technicians • Provide technical support and service to customers, Sales, Marketing and provide assistance in solving technical problems, as needed.

• Formulate and evaluate resins, polymers and other components used in adhesive production. • Perform tests, record and interpret results and issue summary report and recommendations in a timely manner. • Keep management advised of project status, issues and progress. • Identify improvement and new product opportunities, assess fit, define and implement and manage development efforts for the adhesive market. • Represent Company via customer visits by attending and participating in industry-related conferences and technical seminars, network, develop relationships and maintain awareness of customer needs. Travel expectations are 10 to 20% domestic and international. • Develop and give technical presentations. • Keep current with industry trends, drivers and participate in training to advance knowledge and expertise.

Essential Criteria Includes:

• Extensive and current Adhesive application, product development and formulation experience. • Hands-on/laboratory experience formulating, characterizing, testing/trialing HMA’s, PSA’s, and construction adhesives and interpreting results. • Work experience with a diverse range of adhesive polymers, hydrocarbon and tackifiers and end-use applications. • Comfortable and confident interfacing with customers – understanding, identifying and defining their needs • Fundamental understanding of , chemistry and structure performance relationships. • Thorough understanding of rheology and visco elastic behavior of materials.

Minimum requirements for the qualified candidate are:

• Bachelors or advanced degree from an accredited university – preferably with an emphasis and focus on Chemistry, Polymer/Material/ Science or directly related field. • Minimum of five years’ of experience formulating, testing and trialing new, commercially viable hot melt adhesive and hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives. • Broad-based and in-depth understanding of all relevant hot melt adhesive compounding materials – polymers, tackifying resins, waxes, , functional additives, etc. • Materials background that includes knowledge and work with styrenic block (SIS, SBS, SEBS and blends of same), EVA, EEA,PE, APAO, , SBR and other relevant . • Knowledge of hot-melt adhesive , processing, application and/or converting equipment. • Thorough understanding of physical, performance and analytical testing and characterization protocols for polymers, resins and adhesive products. • Knowledge and experience with Stage Gate commercialization process and Design of Experiment (DOE) methodologies.
