Day 2 & 3 Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th September After a delicious brekky at our Hotel, we’ll sadly depart this beautiful spot. But don’t worry! We’re off to another gorgeous spot – Daydream Island which has just gone through a major refurbishment of more than $100 million (after cyclone Debby 2017). We’ll board the ferry and reach the paradise that is Daydream Island, one of seven islands of the Molle Group of islands which is part of the Whitsunday Islands Group, nestled in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Just one kilometre long and half a kilometre wide, Daydream Island is one of a few inhabited islands in the Whitsundays. Daydream Island is the closest of the Whitsunday Islands to , lying just five kilometres from the mainland making it popular with day visitors. It is the perfect place from which to explore the beautiful Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef and the island resort is ideal for both fun-seeking families and romance- seeking couples. The sparking bays, secluded beaches and stunning rainforest are just some of the island’s natural beauty that visitors to Daydream can expect to experience. Daydream Island has three fabulous beaches, with Sunlovers Beach fringed by live coral outcrops containing over 40 marine fish species and 50 coral varieties, the perfect location for hours of snorkelling and underwater exploration. The highest point and centre of the island is a small, dense jungle of lush tropical vegetation inhabited by parrots and tiny sunbirds. Daydream is a peaceful and relaxing tropical tranquillity surrounded by nature, in one of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

The beating heart of Daydream Island is the eco-friendly and educational Living Reef. This famous coral lagoon wraps around the central building and holds an impressive 1.5 million litres of water. We can shake fins with a baby ray, spot starfish and sea cucumbers, get up close to a crab and discover over 100 unique species of marine fish. We can enjoy an underwater observatory and hands-on experiences with resident marine biologists – there’s plenty of way to see, touch and learn. There’s Bingo, Trivia, Guided Fish Feeding and Stingray splash – just some of the many activities you can take part in if you wish. Or laze by the pool – up to you!

Day Four Wednesday 16th September

After our last brekky on Daydream, we’ll catch the ferry back to Airlie Beach and start our journey to Townsville. We’ll travel through the cute little town of Bowen, unlike the other coastal towns and cities. There is something about the town - the impossibly wide streets, the easiness of the lifestyle, the rural unpretentiousness - which makes no concessions to would-be developers or visitors from the south. There is an image of the languidness of a city slowly melting under a hot tropical sun. This is a charming old-style town in an area where the rest of the world has moved on.

You’ll love the murals - The first was painted in 1988, on the wall of the Bowen Library, located on Herbert Street. The idea behind the murals belonged to a former Bowen resident. She came up with the idea on her visit to Chemainus in Canada, where the town’s historical past was shown in wall murals. Bowen’s diverse history- from the early settlement, through the various industries of the region, to the present time, comes to life through paintings by many well-known artists.

Then we’re off to Townsville. The coastal city is a vibrant mix of modern architecture and restored heritage buildings, bustling outdoor cafes, restaurants, boutiques and quirky galleries, all linked by a shady park-lined beach promenade. We’ll drive to the top of Castle Hill for some spectacular views before checking in to our Hotel – our home for 2 nights. (B)(D)

Day Five Thursday 17th September

After brekky at our Hotel, we’re in for a real treat. No sooner (20 minutes to be precise) than you leave Townsville’s docks, will you arrive at Magnetic Island’s jetty. The first thing that hits you as you dock at the Magnetic Island Marina is not just the eye-catching granite boulders, but the relaxed pace at which this island runs.

Over two-thirds of the island is classified as National Park, providing a haven for native wildlife including rock wallabies, koalas, possums and more than 100 different bird species, which are conveniently connected by 25kms of hiking trails for the avid bushwalker. Rocky granite headlands and towering hoop pines stand sentinel over tranquil sandy bays on this rugged, mountainous island covered with open eucalypt woodlands and surrounded by coral reefs. Lunch included as we take our time, kick back and relax on “Maggie”.

Dinner back at our Hotel tonight. (B)(L)(D)
