LOOKING FORWARD Your Councillors have been researching the future needs of Mundesley ahead of preparing a Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP). It is now time to consult with everyone in the Village who would like to become involved, to ensure your views on the future of our village are known ahead of the plan being drawn up. Why is a NDP valuable to you as a Mundesley resident? FIRSTLY IT GIVES YOU A GREAT CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE FUTURE OF OUR VILLAGE. SECONDLY IT ENABLES US TO RESIST THE ATTENTIONS OF SPECULATORS WHO MAY WISH TO PROFIT FROM INAPROPRIATE PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT IN OUR PARISH. YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THE RECENT ITEM ON “LOOK EAST” WHERE A SUFFOLK VILLAGE ACHIEVED EXACTLY THAT. IT ENABLES US TO FOCUS OUR THINKING ON KEY STRATEGIC ISSUES FACING THE VILLAGE. ONCE ADOPTED BY DISTRICT COUNCIL OUR NDP WILL BE PART OF LEGITIMATE LOCAL PLANNING THEREBY ENSURING WE HAVE MUCH MORE OF A SAY IN THE FUTURE OF OUR VILLAGE. So we are reaching out to the community for your views. Please, if you live or work in Mundesley, let us know what you think the main priorities should be. Have your say. Contact details; web site, email address. LOOKING BACK To look forward we need to remember the lessons from the past and this was poignantly evident from our WW1 Centenary Event when we unveiled our new memorial to those villagers who gave their lives in that awful war. It was one of the proudest moments of my life to MC the evening and witness the moving sight of descendants’ of the fallen placing candles at the foot of the new memorial. Many had come from other parts of the country and were welcomed by the hundreds of locals who attended. Sadly, after the event we had to employ someone to repair vandalism to one of the “Tommies.” A despicable act which upset many Parishioners and incurred us all in unnecessary expense. Fortunately the stupid actions of a few are far outweighed by the positivity of the hundreds who attended the event and those who organised it. LINKING PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE The spirit of Mundesley evident in the Armistice Day celebrations and the WW1 Centenary event is seen in many other activities, many of them by volunteers who give their time freely to help or protect, or simply offer a kind word to others. People like the Inshore Lifeboat organisation, the First Responders, the Surf Lifesavers, the Soup and Pud volunteers and there are many others. So please let’s harness this “spirit” within our Neighbourhood Development Plan to ensure it lives on in the future. Best wishes David Harding (Chairman Mundesley Parish Council) MBA DMS Working for you……… Upcoming Council Meetings

Mundesley School Planting for Polio

On Friday 2nd November a group of pupils from Mundesley Junior school planted purple crocus corms next to the village sign on the corner of Road/Water Lane. Further corms are being planted in the box underneath the new School sign on Trunch Road. The reason for all this activity was in initiative by Rotary Club. Rotary internationally has, for many years, been the main driver of a world wide campaign to rid the World of polio. In recent years Bill Gates has come on board & we are now very near to our goal of eliminating polio. As part of the immunisation programme, children have a finger inked purple to show that they have been treated. To reflect this purple theme across the country, Rotarians have been planting purple crocus corms to make the public aware of the issue. At the same time we are raising money by purchasing the corms & of course there is (hopefully) a lovely show of flowers when they come up. Jack Welham & John Watts from the R.C. of North Walsham spoke at a school assembly so that the children were aware of polio and what is being done to eradicate it. Article Written by Jack Welham

Come along to the Annual Parish Meeting on the 13th May at Coronations Hall and have your say on the many ideas to help the village. The Mundesley School Children planting for polio with the North Walsham Rotary Club
