Light shines through to cast shadows of these Aspirations – literally having the Aspirations projected, and occurring, positively. The audience may project selected text shadows against the walls and ceiling using their own light sources. SINGAPORE NIGHT FESTIVAL 2013 PROGRAMMES: SINGAPORE MANAGEMENT UNIVERSITY

HOMEMADE Fri 23 & Sat 24 Aug 2013 7.30pm – 12.00am Singapore Management University Green

HOMEMADE 2013 is a celebration of originality, collaboration and Singapore-made music. This year, HOMEMADE is presented over two weekends, 23 & 24 Aug and the intimate HOMEMADE 2013 (UNPLUGGED) sessions on 30 & 31 Aug. Some of the acts to look forward to are Pleasantry, The Obedient Wives Club, Inch Chua and The Bushmen.

An exciting feature of the music festival has always been the never-before-seen (or heard) presentations and also, collaborations between musicians and genres. In the true spirit of bigger, better and louder, Homemade 2013 will debut a 20-piece band – The Electric Symphony Project.

OBEDIENT WIVES CLUB 7.30pm Determined to fill the fuzzed out girl group indie pop void that is missing from the Singapore indie scene, Obedient Wives Club captures the quintessential sounds of lo-fi Spectorgaze. The Obedient Wives Club was voted by SEA INDIE as one of the Top 10 Southeast Asia’s Best Indie-pop Releases of 2010-11.

PLEASANTRY 8.45pm Drawing inspiration from dreamed-up scenarios based on real-life scripts, Pleasantry’s compositions showcase simple lyrical tones offset by the accompaniment of rich instrumentation and varied song structures.

TIRAMISU 10pm Tiramisu is notoriously known for creating aimless surprises and spontaneity during their

performances. The band has brought across a new realm in the local music scene - a mini clown rock jamboree and a devastated disco discontent - they balanced kitsch and cock rock with serious subject of human condition.

PALOMAS by Pitaya Design Banyan Tree @ NMS Lights sculptures

The Palomas are lighting objects. Like a summer migration, the birds landed in Singapore for two weeks, before flying back to France. While resting on the big tree that overlooks the

National Museum of Singapore, their soft white light illuminates the tree, adding certain magical lightness to it. The shape of these stylised birds has been inspired by the simplicity of origami and light shines on the wings and the tail to reveal their shapes.

TYPE LIGHT by Trafik The Cathay Interactive LED display

Ever wondered how your text messages would look like on a giant LED screen, right in the middle of our town-centre? Type Light fits into the urban landscape as a strong and unique light totem, allowing everyone to play and communicate their own dream. Type your message and see it appear on the giant light display of 90 bars of LED's, visible from various angles of vision and for all to see! An interactive light experience directed by you, and you alone.

PAPERPLANES by Pitaya Design School of the Arts Lights sculptures

Paperplanes is a naive and childish interpretation of what could be an airport: multi-coloured paper planes taking off from a box in all directions! These boxes are like presents with a lot of destinations, a lot of possibilities. A smooth white light pulsates from inside the boxes, and the planes are lit with colourful lights.

WATER LIGHT GRAFFITI by Antonin Forneau Outside Raffles City Interactive digital painting

Based on an idea as simple as illumination, Water Light Graffiti enables one to draw or write ephemeral messages which appear as light against the wall of LEDs. To use water, which has no shape and no colour, to draw light, is a magical experience for all. By mixing a natural element and technology, Water Light Graffiti's users can even play with the weather or the evaporation speed for example. Water Light Graffiti also has a surprising role during rainy days and turn them into fireworks of damp LEDs.

Collected over 500 years, over 90 masterpieces from the exquisite art collection of the Prince of Liechtenstein will be travelling to Singapore for the first time. This exhibition is exemplary of the highly cultivated choice in art, with artworks ranging from paintings, prints, tapestries, sculptures to rare decorative art objects. Significant works by important Flemish artists like Rubens and Anthony van Dyck, as well as those by other renowned European masters such as Raphael and Lucas Cranach the Elder, will be showcased to celebrate the High Renaissance, Baroque, Neo-classical and Biedermeier that span from the late 15th century to the mid-19th century, all of which characterise the European way of articulating authority, power and wealth of the ruling houses.

In addition, a selection of 16 oil paintings from the National Collection will be displayed to draw links to the art of portraiture in Singapore’s historical context, exploring how it was an important representational mode between the late 19th and mid-20th century.

These artists work across different geographic and cultural contexts, and through a combination of techniques, to produce unique artworks that fluidly traverse and defy social identities and representations.
