Friday, March 28 SEMIFINAL PRACTICE DAY QUOTES – Baylor Kim Mulkey – Head Coach On recollections of the four overtime game versus Kentucky… “Well, now, you’re assuming I looked at the tape— who wants to look at a loss? My recollection is that is was horrible weather, very few Baylor fans there because of the sleet and snow, I never thought the game would end and I was concerned I wouldn’t have enough players to even finish the game. Really I didn’t look at that tape. I spent time on the current month and just looked at a lot of things that Kentucky has changed since that game and one of the things is a zone defense. Just know that they’re good. They play a lot of players, we play a lot of players. Both teams have had successful seasons and really I don’t know how much you get from that game, it was so long ago anyways.” On the team’s success this season… “Well it starts with Odyssey Sims. I’m not sure I knew what was fair to expect of our team until I watched them in game situations. I knew what we had with Odyssey Sims. Odyssey Sims is an All- American, and she had to accept the leadership role that she hadn’t embraced before this year. I think a lot of the young players and inexperienced players that we have just kind of followed in her lead.

    Baylor's Brittney Griner headlines 2012-13 preseason 'Wade Watch' list ATLANTA (September 18, 2012) - Baylor center Brittney Griner, the 2012 State Farm® Wade Trophy winner, headlines the 2012-13 preseason "Wade Watch" list of candidates for the prestigious award, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced today. Connecticut leads all schools with three players on the 25-member preseason list. Five schools - defending national champion Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Nebraska and Penn State - are represented by two players each. Now in its 36th year, the State Farm Wade Trophy is named in honor of the late, legendary three-time national champion Delta State University coach, Lily Margaret Wade. Regarded as "The Heisman of Women's Basketball," the award is presented annually to the NCAA® Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA. The preseason list is composed of top NCAA Division I women's basketball players who best embody Wade's spirit from 18 institutions and eight conferences. A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability. Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins, Delaware's Elena Della Donne and Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers join Griner on the preseason list for the third straight year. Alex Bentley of Penn State, Carolyn Davis of Kansas, Stefanie Dolson and Bria Hartley of Connecticut, Chiney Ogwumike of Stanford and Odyssey Sims of Baylor are making their second appearance on the list.

    Administration of Barack Obama, 2012 Remarks Honoring the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Champion Baylor University Lady Bears July 18, 2012 The President. Thank you. Everybody, please have a seat. Welcome to the White House, everybody. And congratulations to the Baylor Lady Bears on their undefeated season and second national championship. There are some proud Members of Congress who are here today. We've got a bunch of proud Texans in the house. I want to thank all the outstanding young women who are behind me and the coach for making my bracket look good, at least on the women's side. [Laughter] I picked Baylor over Notre Dame, but I have to say, I wasn't the only one. It wasn't that hard. [Laughter] Because if there's one thing to describe this team, it was "dominant." Last season, the Lady Bears scored more points than any team in women's college basketball history. They became the first team ever—men's or women's—to win 40 games in a season. Now, this is not to say that success came easily. After a tough loss to Texas A&M in the Elite Eight last year, the Lady Bears decided they weren't going to go through that again. So they buckled down, they spent all summer in the gym, and they have not lost since: not to the Aggies and not to anybody else. [Laughter] So obviously, a lot of credit goes to Coach Kim Mulkey. This is Coach's fifth national championship—she just—she likes to win if you haven't noticed.
