It was waged on racetracks and in showrooms for 50 years, beginning in 1903, when the Battle iS on Harley first came on the scene, (Indian started first, in 1901) and ending only when Indian ceased pro- duction in 1954. But Indian is back, and with builders such as Paul Yaffe and John Shope armed to the teeth, the war is on once again, with a 21st Century ven- geance. These builders each led student teams in the 2015 Buffalo Chip Challenge, Yaffe on the Harley side and Shope with the Indian. Motorcycle customizers today have advantages builders of the past only dreamed of and you can bet both Shope and Yaffe are pushing the limits to gain an edge on the other guy. The final con- frontation happens tomorrow when the two bikes go head to head in front of the Silverado Franklin hotel in Deadwood during the Legends Ride pre- ride auction. So come to Deadwood tomorrow to see the bikes, witness the auction and catch the competi- tive vibe in this historic wild west town. You never know which stars, builders and celebrities will turn out for the Legends Ride at high noon and reignite the Harley vs. Indian wars.
