Welcome to Denmark

As chairman of the Danish Association (DCF) I take great pleasure in welcoming the teams and officials from Holland, Ireland and Scotland to Denmark for this Under 15 European Championship 2006.

We thank the European Cricket Council (ECC) for their support in arranging the tournament. The ECC-tournaments are now an established part of the work with the talented cricketers all Europe and they have certainly made life easier for the cricket administrators in the above mentioned countries with the Standing Operations Procedures and call for a high standard on and off the field of play.

I welcome you all to Herning in the heart of Jutland.

Tournaments like this do not come out of nowhere. DCF is immensely grateful to people at the local cricket club, Herning CC, fronted by the chairman of the club Folmer Christiansen, to the tournament referee and umpire manager Bjarne K. Jensen.

I hope you will enjoy your stay in Denmark. May the best team win!

Claus B S Hansen Chairman DCF

Welcome to Herning

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to Herning in connection with the celebration of The Under 15 Cricket Championship Tournament from the 1st to the 3rd August 2006.

The City of Herning is pleased and proud to host this sporting event once again. An event that gathers young talented players across borders in a developing and challenging forum which forms the basis of many good experiences on as well as outside the cricket grounds.

Even if the primary focus of your visit is cricket and being together with other sportspeople, I hope that beside the sporting events, you will also find time for a little sightseeing.

If time allows, I can recommend a visit to the City’s renowned art museums in Birk, where you will also find Ingvar Cronhammar’s gigantic sculpture ELIA. Or pass by the new ”SAS Arena”, which is located in close proximity to the Herning Exhibition Centre, the largest exhibition centre in Scandinavia and Northern Europe.

If you do not have time to experience all the City’s cultural offers during this visit, I hope that you will be inspired to return on a later occasion.

With the ECC 2006 we look forward to yet another enriching experience in the company of the European cricket elite. An elite of young, highly-talented sportspeople whom we shall no doubt see more of in future – also in the senior matches.

I wish you good luck with this year’s championship and in this connection I would like to thank the many active sportspeople as well as voluntary contributors who have made this a special event both in terms of sporting as well as social experiences for everybody.

Have a good time with the championship, and I hope that you will spend some pleasant and memorable days in Herning.

Welcome to Herning

Lars Krarup Mayor

A message from the European Cricket Council

st European Cricket Council ECC European U15 1 Division Championship 2006 The Clock Tower Lord’s Cricket Ground London NW8 8QN www.ecc-cricket.com

Welcome to the ECC European U15 1st Division Championship which is taking place in Herning, Denmark from 1-3 August.

Cricket at youth level in Europe has excelled in recent years due to the huge efforts of the development programmes running in countries. Youth cricket in Denmark is improving and with the adoption of Plan 2010 the development in future looks to be in a more healthy state. Hopefully the players from all four countries taking part in this tournament will one day go onto represent their country at senior national level.

With three of Europe’s countries in the ICC , West Indies 2007, and Denmark in the ICC World Cricket League Div 2 next year, there is now an enormous goal for the many young cricketers in Europe to aim at, and this tournament is very much part of that process.

Personally I would like to thank the Tournament Organisers Torsten Ørhøj and Folmer Christiansen, ECC Tournament Referee and Umpire Manager Bjarne K. Jensen, all the match officials involved in the tournament and the many volunteers throughout the Herning Cricket Club who have worked so hard and kindly hosted the matches.

Good luck to all involved.

Yours sincerely

Richard Holdsworth ICC Regional Development Manager – Europe

Cricket in Denmark

Cricket arrived in Denmark in the 1860’s when British while laying railway lines across Denmark. One is reminded of this fact when one realizes that many Danish cricket clubs are situated alongside railway lines in the country.

Denmark, now an Associate Member of the ICC has some 2.500 cricketers in around 40 clubs dispersed around the country. The Danish Cricket Association sees one of its main tasks as development.

Recently the Danish Cricket Academy started with purpose of developing young Danish players. There is also a club programme to help the clubs get more players in their youth teams.

Yearly participation in tournaments with Netherlands, Scotland and Ireland at U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19, U-23 and senior level streghens the development programme. The policy is to access better young players as early as possible and to develop their skills through participation in winter and summer sessions under the supervision of qualified coaches.

Over the years Denmark has produced first class players such as Ole Mortensen and Amjad Khan (currently playing for Kent). This year Frederik Klokker had his first class debut for Warwickshire.
