NOTES OF THE NIGHT Carter Hart made his NHL debut on Tuesday vs. Detroit. He became the youngest Flyers goaltender to win a game (20 years, 129 days), debut or otherwise, and as the fifth youngest goaltender in the NHL since 1996-97 to win his debut. With his win over Nashville on Thursday, Hart became the 23rd goaltender in NHL history to win each of his first two career starts before celebrating his 21st birthday, and first since Mackenzie Skapski in 2014-15 (w/ NYR). Of the 23 goaltenders, Hart was tied for the seventh-youngest at the time of his second win. Hart is the second-youngest Flyers goaltender to appear in a game, behind Maxime Ouellet, who made his debut in relief on Oct. 7, 2000 at 19 years, 112 days and made his first NHL start five days later on October 12, 2000 at 19 years, 117 days.

Hart is the first goaltender in NHL history to wear jersey number 79, and the first Flyer at any position to wear it.

The Flyers continue to operate as the NHL’s best faceoff team with a 55.3 percent rating. The Flyers have four players at 55 percent or better:

Jordan Weal – 60.0 pct Claude Giroux – 59.0 pct Scott Laughton – 58.7 pct Sean Couturier – 55.5 pct

As a team, the Flyers have been 50 percent or better on faceoffs in 25 out of 34 games this season.

The Flyers’ penalty kill has improved significantly over the last 13 games, going 35-for-40 (87.5 percent). It had gone 68.5 percent (50 for 73) in the 21 games before that.

The Flyers have allowed the third-fewest 5-on-5 shots against total in the league this season, and have allowed the fewest unblocked shot attempts. Overall the Flyers are averaging 29.3 shots against per game, which is the sixth-fewest in the league; however, their total goals-against of 123 is third-most in the league pending the end of Saturday night’s games.

Claude Giroux has 12 goals and 30 assists for 42 points in 34 games, which is 15 more points than anyone else on the Flyers’ roster. Last season, Giroux finished with 102 points, which was 17 points more than the rest of the roster and was the same point-per-game average (1.24) as he’s on this season. Giroux has 144 points since the start of last season (46G, 98A) which is fourth in the NHL – behind Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Nikita Kucherov.

Robert Hagg has 108 hits, which ranks him sixth in the league. Radko Gudas has 99, which ties him for 14th.

The Flyers on Monday named Scott Gordon as interim head coach, replacing . Gordon had been in his fourth season as the head coach of the Flyers’ affiliate, the . He was named to the position on July 13, 2015. In 254 games with the Phantoms, Gordon has a record of 144-86-15. He led the club back to the playoffs in 2017 after a seven- season absence, and in 2018 guided the Phantoms to the AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals.

Scott Gordon was named the interim head coach of the Flyers on December 17, 2018. He had been in his fourth season as the head coach of the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, after being named to that position on July 13, 2015.

In 254 games with the Phantoms, Gordon has a record of 144-86-15. He led the club back to the playoffs in 2017 after a seven-season absence, and in 2018 guided the Phantoms to the AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals.

Gordon was the head coach of the New York Islanders for parts of three seasons (2008-09 to 2010-11), and also served as the head coach of the Providence Bruins, the AHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, from 2002-2008 after working as an assistant there for two seasons. Prior to joining the Phantoms, Gordon was an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2011-2014.
