Operation Holly – Christmas drink-drive prevention figures.

Across and the Isle of Wight 7,606 were breath tested during the month of December 2016 which resulted in 222 arrests (up from 195 in December 2015). This included an increase in people being detained for drug driving. The drunk driver was given a suspended eight-week prison sentence and has been disqualified for 36 months.

Thanks to a member of public reporting a car being driven erratically on the M3, a man from Southampton was stopped by police and was found to be five times over the drink- drive limit after drinking a whole bottle of vodka before getting behind the wheel and driving. If it wasn’t for the concerned motorist notifying police and their prompt action, there may well have been a fatal accident.

It is ten years since Apple released the first version of the iPhone. This marked a revolution in the global smartphone market, thanks to the introduction of innovative features such as touch screen interfaces and virtual keyboards.

According to a Home Office report, over 500,000 mobiles are reported stolen every year with models by HTC and Samsung overtaking the Iphone as the thief’s favourite handset but Apple remains the brand of smartphone most likely to be stolen. Personal information on the phones is often sold on to identity thieves.

In October last year a thief was jailed for snatching 21 mobiles phones in less than one hour in London.
