September 25, 7:00 pm Leo Kottke, Guest Artist+ Program Bios Duane Funderburk While in Boston he won first place in the Aaron Richmond Piano Competition, Cello Sonata in E minor Johannes Brahms performed live on Boston Public Radio, and gave recitals at the Gardner Mu- 1. Allegro non troppo (1833-1897) seum, Worcester Art Museum, and Goethe Institute. International orchestral 2. Allegretto quasi Menuetto performances include appearances with the Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Panevezys Chamber Orchestra in 3. Allegro Lithuania. He has performed as soloist in Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt, and has performed John Michel, cello in Seoul, Korea, with the touring Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra from Ukraine. Duane Funderburk, piano As a collaborative artist with violinist Alex Russell, Duane has performed at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and The Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, as well as appearances in Sweden, Australia, Singapore, Korea, Ukraine, Armenia, Canada, and numerous venues in the United States. Violin Sonata Claude Debussy MorningStar Music Publishers, Fred Bock Music, and Jubal House Music have published both instrumental and choral works by Duane which include cham- 1. Currently, Dr. Funderburk serves as Co-Director of Music at Lake Avenue 3. Carrie Rehkopf Michel, violin Dr. Funderburk holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Duane Funderburk, piano Pacific University, a Master of Music degree in piano performance from Boston University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California in collaborative piano. Duane Funderburk began his musical studies in the Pacific Northwest studying Piano Trio Op. 1, No. 1 with Marcile Mack at Seattle Pacific University and Randolph Hokanson at the 1. Allegro (1770-1872) . While in Seattle he performed chamber music with 2. Adagio cantabile cellist Carter Enyeart and violist Alan Iglitzen, both members of the Philadelphia 3. Scherzo. Allegro assai String Quartet. He has attended the Aspen Music Festival and the Tanglewood Institute where he studied with pianists Bela Nagy, Samuel Lipman, Ruth Lare- 4. Finale. Duane Funderburk, piano Kairos Kairos, violinist Carrie Rehkopf Michel and cellist John Michel, collaborate with Carrie Rehkopf Michel, violin world-renowned pianists in presenting concerts of the rich piano and strings rep- John Michel, cello ertoire. Kairos has performed in Italy, Taiwan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Canada and across the United States. Collaborators include pianists Stephen Beus, Moli Chiang, Duane Funderburk, Eduard Zilberkant and Tatjana Rankovich, violinists Kathryn Votapek and David Perry, and violist Michelle Rahn. To stimulate the imaginations of new audiences, Kairos also collaborates with other artists including choreographers Shauna Goddard Barger, Diane De Franco Browne & Jackie Kopcsak; storytellers Claudia Solti, Moon Hi Hanson & Gillian Coldsnow; and visual artists Rachel Hall Kirk & Mellasenah Nicole. Recently Kairos has debuted the Youtube channel “KairosVR” which features 360degree videos of the Mendelssohn Trio in d with Stephen Beus. Kairos holds the endowed chamber music residency at Central Washington Uni- versity and Icicle Creek Center for the Arts.
