She still actively competes at a high level, having reached the finals of the U.S. Open Master’s mixed doubles competition in both 2000 and 2001. McCain was recently named an elite athlete representative on the USTA Board of Directors. She also served on the ITA West Region committee and was elected to the USTA nominating committee. She was a member of the WTA Tour Players’ Committee from 1991 to 1996, a member of its Disciplinary Committee from 1992 to 1995, and a member of its Ranking Committee in 1995. McCain has turned down several USTA development jobs so she can continue to lead the Husky program into national prominence. However, she is quite involved in helping her players to achieve world rankings and pursue tennis after their collegiate careers are over. The Sacramento, Calif., native earned a bachelor’s in psychology from Stanford in 1987 and is completing her thesis for a master’s in education at St. Mary’s (Calif.). She is married to Scott McCain, a former ATP Tour player and coach at California. The couple has two young daughters, Keegan, born May 23, 2001, and Hayley, born Dec. 17, 2002. www.gohuskies.com -- 5 -- 2003-04 Washington Women’s Tennis ASSISTANT2002-2003 SEASON COACH/STAFF REVIEW RENATA KOLBOVIC - ASSISTANT COACH Renata Kolbovic begins her second season as an assistant coach for the Washington women’s tennis team. Her first season with the Huskies saw the squad earn its highest ever final national ranking (sixth), while crowning three ITA All-Americans. A native of Brno, Czech Republic, Kolbovic spent two years in private coaching before coming to Seattle in 2003 from Vancouver, Canada. Kolbovic was a standout player in both the Canadian and international circuits. She won the Under-16 Canadian Na- tionals and was a member of an All-America doubles team in 1995. She also advanced to the finals of the Rolex Championships and earned a bronze medal in doubles at the 1999 Pan Am Games. Kolbovic is a 1995 graduate of Magee Secondary School. Her interests outside of tennis include design and decorating, as well as skiing, ice-skating and badminton. Her younger sister, Monika, is a freshman on the Husky squad.
