Performances2015 by: Good Foot Dance Company accompanied by Maivish Good Foot Dance Company Good Foot Dance Company explores the complex cultural twinings of the root-system of American traditional dance, from Appalachian flatfooting, to tap, to contemporary urban dance . By mixing and remixing vernacular dance and music and bringing a critical and historical inquiry to the shared history of American dance cultures, they put on an energetic performance, while raising questions about connectivity, continuity and social responsibility . Good Foot Dance Company is Matthew Olwell, Becky Hill and Emily Oleson . They will be teaching Clogging I, Clogging II, Body Rhythms, Flatfooting, Tap and Era Party Dances . Maivish explores the landscape of time-honored melodies and songs and comes home along new pathways, making music with vibrant energy and delight . Gathering traditions from the British Isles, Ireland and America with a mix of original compositions, their performance is infused with lush vocal harmonies, inspired interplay and captivating spirit . At its core, the group is a collaboration between American fiddler Jaige Trudel and British born guitarish Adam Broome who have been performing together as a duo for over a decade . Joining them is Matthew Olwell on flutes, bodhran and percussive dance . Maivish will provide the music for Good Foot’s dance workshops . Together Good Foot Dance Company and Maivish Maivish will present a performance/concert Saturday at 7:00 PM on the Main Stage. New Riverside Ramblers New Riverside Ramblers, from Minneapolis, MN, bring high-energy Cajun dance music from the prairies and bayous of Louisiana to Traditional Arts Weekend . This French music blends influences from the many cultures and communities of south Louisiana to produce compelling two-steps, waltzes and blues . Band members are Eric Mohring (fiddle & vocals), Paul Loughridge (percussion and triangle), Karen Kleinspehn (rhythm guitar), Doug Lohman (bass), John Terr (accordion) and AJ Scrubas (fiddle) . They will be providing workshops in Cajun Fiddle, Sound 101, Irish Fiddle, Cajun Rhythm Guitar and will provide music for two Cajun Dance Instruction workshops let by Mark Stoltz, Lake Ann, MI . New Riverside Ramblers will be playing for Cajun Jam at 4:30 PM on Saturday and a Cajun Dance Sunday at 10:15 in the Dance Pavilion. New Riverside Ramblers Martha Burns With an old-time voice that echoes the mountains, Martha Burns sings southern ballads, cowboy songs, comic ditties, turn-of-the-century heart-throbbers and whatever else strikes her fancy . She’s been playing and singing American folk music since the early 1960s growing up in New York’s Greenwich Village . A gifted solo performer, she has also appeared in oldduets and with several top-notch string bands . Martha’s sensitivity to the traditions from which she sings lends a special richness to all her performances . She will be leading three workshops; Old Time Song Types, Singing Carter Family Songs and Carter Style Guitar . Friday evening she will present a concert at 8:00 PM on the Main Stage.
