Technical Exercises Scales, Arpeggios & Riff Technical Exercises In this section the examiner will ask you to play a selection of exercises drawn from each of the three groups shown below. Groups A and B contain examples of the scales and arpeggios you can use when playing the pieces. In Group C you will be asked to prepare the bassline riff exercise and play it to the backing track in the exam. You do not need to memorise the exercises (and can use the book in the exam) but the examiner will be looking for the speed of your response. The examiner will also give credit for the level of your musicality. Groups A and B should be prepared on the starting notes indicated. Before you start the section you will be asked whether you would like to play the exercises along with the click or hear a single bar of click before you commence the test. The tempo is = 80. q Group A: Scales One octave prepared on the starting notes G, B b, C and D in the two specified fingerings. 1. The piece will be composed in the style of rock, funk or blues and will have chord symbols throughout. The test is eight bars long and is in one of the following keys: F major or G major, or E minor or G minor. The examiner will allow you 90 seconds to prepare it and will set the tempo for you. west coast music Encore Please find attached the Encore Band song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need to have your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, F/D Dance, etc) FOUR WEEKS prior to your event so that we can confirm the band will be able to perform the song(s) and so that we have time to locate sheet music and audio of the song(s). In some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is needed, this gives us time to properly prepare the music. Clients are not obligated to submit a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and/or avoided. If you desire the highest degree of control (asking the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we would ask for a minimum 80 requests from the band’s songlist. Please feel free to call us at the office should you have any questions. – West Coast Music SONGLIST: At Last – Etta James 1,2,3,4 – Plain White T’s Baby Got Back – Sir Mix A Lot 24K Magic – Bruno Mars Back at One – Boyz II Men A Thousand Years – Christina Bad Day – Daniel Powter Perri Ballad Of John & Yoko Ain’t too Proud to Beg – Bamboleo – Gipsy Kings Temptations Bang my Head – David Guetta/Sia Adventure of a Lifetime – Beast of Burden – Rolling Stones Coldplay Beautiful Day – U2 After All – Peter Cetera/Cher

It has been accepted for inclusion in Media Company Leader Presentations by an authorized administrator of ScholarWorks@BGSU. i am OTHER Pharrell Williams A Presentation by Renei Jackson Background • Pharrell Lanscilo Williams was born on April 5, 1973 in the city of Virginia Beach, VA • He grew up being “the problem child” at school always making beats on the tables and being sent to detention. • He was born in a predominantly African-American community as a child where he didn’t really fit in because of his mix of inspiration from skaters such as Tony Hawk and Christian Hosoi to renown hip hop artists Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick. • His family later moved to the suburbs where he was surrounded by a primarily White community. Being involved in different environments made him depend on music to connect to other people. Transition into Fame • He first came into fame as a songwriting and production duo, Neptune, with his friend Chad Hugo in the 90s. • They produced hits for artists ranging from Jay-Z to Britney Spears. He produced some artists most well known songs such as Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl”, Kelis’ “My Milkshake Brings All the Boys to the Yard,” and Justin Timberlake’s “Senorita.” • In a study done by Complex, during 2003, The Neptunes were responsible for 43% of the songs playing on the radio in the United States.
