Grade 3 English: Possessive Nouns
Now, it is your turn to talk about your pets! Some grammar rules about
possessive nouns below can be
helpful.
A possessive noun shows who or what has something. Add an apostrophe and s (’s) to a noun to make it possessive.
The boy’s dog The girl’s dog
If there is a plural noun ending in “s”, add only an apostrophe (’). A plural noun means there is more than one.

1. A dog Every dog’s personality is unique. Dogs need regular exercise and training. They can’t be left alone for a long time.
2. A cat If you like cats, be ready to hold them to help them snuggle. Be careful! They can bite and scratch if they don’t like something. They need food, water, care, and attention every day. Cats’ tails help them to balance.
3. A rabbit Rabbits are very active. They like to chew different things. A rabbit’s cage should always be clean. Sometimes, rabbits get tired of small children.
