CAMPAGNA FINANZIATA AI SENSI DEL REGOLAMENTO CE n. 1234/07 CAMPAIGN SUPPORTED BY REGULATION EC n. 1234/07

CANTINA LA VIS

The Cantina La Vis was founded in 1948 as a cooperative and currently counts 1,300 Members cultivating more than 1,400 hectares of vineyards. La Vis was the first Italian entity to invest in innovative programmes like the Zoning and Quality Projects, which are based on traditional, historic traditions and reflect the company’s strong belief in maximizing the potential of the territory. The “Ritratti” wine selection, which brought recognition to La Vis both in Italy and abroad, is the result of this immense work. The splendid paintings by Giovanni Segantini, a pointillist painter from Alto Adige, distinguish and characterize this range of wines. Completely dedicated to international grape varieties, the Ritratti wines, are not only synonymous with quality and territory, but also an expression of environmental sustainability. The Ritratti vineyard is an unique and complex open ecosystem, which thrives thanks to the harmonious synergy of all its constituent elements: environment, climate and man.

- Terraced vineyards at Verla di in Valle di Cembra OPTIMALLY SELECTED VINEYARD LOCATIONS

The grapes for the Ritratti wines are cultivated in the most suitably located geographical zones, i.e. the hilly areas of Lavis, Cembra and Meano, characterized by a heterogeneous micro-climate and therefore a highly varied environment. The inclination and exposure of the vineyards create near-perfect conditions for optimizing the benefits deriving from the sunlight, and along with the diversified nature of chemical composition of the soil impart mineral notes to these wines, which enhance their drinkability and distinctiveness. The porphyry, a volcanic rock rich in minerals, represents the common element of the different pedologic features of the soils. Sometimes mixed with dolomite and granite, sometimes in a pure form, often as a deep lying basement, porphyry is the defining and characteristic factor of the Ritratti wines. From these selected vineyards limited quantities of each grape variety are harvested, which are used to produce wines of the highest quality that fully express the uniqueness of the territory from which they originate. - Terraced vineyards lying on a steep incline SELECTION

The fundamental principle governing the production of Ritratti wines is “selection”. Maximum care is paid to every detail - from the identification of the most suitable site for the grape cultivation, to every step in the production process both in the vineyard and in the winery. For many years, La Vis Members have been systematically reducing the grape yield per bunch to increase the quality. Winter pruning, cutting back the new buds, stripping of the leaves and thinning of the clusters are only a few of the techniques implemented to counterbalance the forces of nature. A well- organized and dedicated structure, set up in the winery, is responsible for the processing of the grapes. Similar to a vinedresser, the Ritratti winery is in constant evolution to meet the requirements of the market and of the ‘raw material’.

Mas del Diaol is an enchanting XVI century restored building, surrounded by a highly selected vineyard lot of about 5 hectares located on an ideal site for the cultivation, employing the guyot espalier training system, of the Chardonnay grape variety. The vines are caressed in the evening by the Ora del Garda, a warm breeze which protects the grapes from potential fungal attacks and favours the accumulation of tannins in the grapes. Of straw- yellow colour with green-golden hues, Del Diaol Chardonnay is refined and elegant. The notes of yellow fruits, pineapple and orange peel blend harmoniously with the sweet sensation of vanilla. On the palate the unmistakable personality and structure of the Chardonnay grape is evident.

Maso Clinga is an ancient rural structure of noble origin (XVI century), unparalleled in style in Trentino. Set in the Municipality of Lavis, this area has been identified as the perfect site for cultivating the Gewürztraminer grape variety after the application of specific ‘Zoning’ research studies. The Maso Clinga terrain is characterized by a silty-gravelly soil, originating from deposits of sandstones and siltstones lying on the porphyric platform of Permian origin (dating 270 million years ago). This wine has a straw-yellow colour and an intense, distinctive and flowery aroma. Full-bodied, refined and typically sapid on the palate.

The Pinot Grigio grape variety was first introduced in Trentino, circa 1875, under the name of Ruländer. The grapes harvested for the production of this wine come from the vineyards located on the Lavis-Pressano hill, cultivated in accordance with the Quality Project protocol, which aims to transform the vineyard into a flourishing autonomous ecosystem thanks to the harmonious synergy of environment, climate and man. Of intense golden yellow colour, Ritratti Pinot grigio has a rich aroma of pears and apricots with notes evoking flowers and honey. Soft and well- rounded tannins on the palate.

The rich and mineral aroma of Maso Tratta (332 m ASL) Sauvignon blanc is imparted by the pedogenetic diversity of the soils – coarse-silty of siltstone origin on the hill tops, to coarse- silty of dolomitic origin along the valley floor. The aroma of nettle leaves and elderflowers with notes of nutmeg, is welcomed by the straw-yellow ripe colour with golden nuances. The deep-lying, silty-clayey soils that originate from the siltstone beds of Werfenian age (dating 250 million years ago), characteristic of the Avisane hills (380 m ASL), provide the ideal substratum for the cultivation of the Pinot Nero grape variety. The Nordic winds channelling down the Adige valley, apart from serving to dry the grapes, generate sharp fluctuations in temperature which preserve and enhance the main aromas. Of a deep garnet-red colour, this wine has a particularly enchanting flowery-fruity, yet earthy aroma. It is lively and well-rounded on the palate, with a sensation of sour black cherries preserved in alcohol. Its balanced taste makes it a truly unique and highly distinctive wine.
