W Avenue sits close to Taihu at the new Wujiang central business district in Suzhou. The site has active traffic access surrounding the four sides of the project, with W AVENUE a direct connection to the future LRT on the south end. This lifestyle, mixed-use SUZHOU | CHINA development will span across two plots of land—on the east and west sides—to create a vibrant future destination for the city.

From Taihu, a waterway is introduced into this eco-development as the key link and connection between the east and west areas. The design concept comes from the motion of a water drop, which falls into the heart of the project. The kinetic energy of the water drop splashing has inspired the dynamic sculptural forms of the buildings.

Water and landscaping are very prominent in the design. The contoured lines of the landscape simulate ripples and help create differences between the levels of the site, while also encouraging pedestrian flow and water taxi routes between the two plots. Distinctive landscape lines twist upwards and evolve, uniting with the façade design of the different buildings.

A central visual corridor has been designed to link the east and west regions of the project. At the eastern side of the commercial plot, the Central Galleria—a 65,000-square-metre shopping mall—serves as the gateway for the central axis, leading to a series of external and internal civil spaces between and inside the buildings across the whole site.

The floating Experience Box at the centre of the scheme mimics the water drop. Linked by a long, S-shaped bridge, it forms a streamline experience sequence with
