Voice Instructions

Google Voice is a free service that allows anyone with a address to make phone calls and get voicemail for free. (Do not use texting.) Here are basic directions to install and use.

You will have to have a Google gmail account or set one up. This will not work with your SVSD email account. Either use a personal account or create a new one for this.

How to get a Google Voice for iOS and Android (Mobile - )

1. Go to the App Store and download the Google Voice app. 2. Open the Google Voice app, and sign in with your information. 3. Select the Sign In button on the bottom of the Screen, and sign in using your Google Account. You may be asked to go to Voice.Google.com to sign in to your Google Account if you’re using an account not already linked on your phone. 4. Accept terms and Conditions 5. Select your area code or city for your phone number. Google Voice won’t allow you to set up a 1-800 number. (The most ‘local’ numbers to us are in Oregon.) 6. Once you have your number selected, finish the Google Voice confirmation process. You’ll need to connect your Google Voice number to your actual phone, so Google knows where to route your incoming calls. Finish this process and you’re ready to get dialing.

How to get a Google Voice number on your computer

1. Visit https://voice.google.com/ 2. When prompted, sign in to your Google account. 3. Select your area code or city for your phone number. Google Voice won’t allow you to set up a 1-800 number. (The most ‘local’ numbers to use are in Oregon.) 4. Once you have the number you want, press Select. Follow on screen prompts. You’ll need to connect your Google Voice number to your actual phone, so there’s a place to route your calls. (This is only for the routing, the person you’re calling will see your google phone #.) Once you’ve completed Google’s confirmation process, you’re ready to start talking.

How to make the conference call with Google Voice

1. Prior to the call, you will need to inform all your participants that they should call you on your Google Voice number at the agreed time. You first enter into a phone conversation with one of your participants, by either having them call you or you call them, through Google Voice. 2. Once you're on the call, you can add the other participants when they dial in. You will be alerted when you have an incoming call. To accept other calls, press 5 after hearing a message about starting a conference call.
