Gawthorpe Textiles Collection is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, audience-focused curator to work with a world class collection of textiles in the heart of Pennine . This is a part time role (2 days a week) based at near in Lancashire.

Job description: 1. Develop collections in line with current best practice and increase access to the collections for a wide range of users 2. Develop and maintain collections and related policies and plans in line with the Accreditation Standard with specific reference to section 2: Collections 3. Use visitor data analysis to develop and interpret collections and engage with a wide range of visitors 4. Develop and maintain displays by employing layered interpretation to engage with a range of users and learning styles (schools, non-specialists, students researchers, hobbyists etc); collaborating with Learning Officer as appropriate 5. Maintain collections care and stewardship of collections to high standard 6. Maintain of collections information (cataloguing) through accessioning and documentation of collections to national Spectrum standards 7. Work with colleagues at Lancashire County Council and National Trust on joint initiatives as appropriate to collection 8. Participate in collaborative initiatives with Pennine Lancashire Museums Consortium 9. Contribute to on-line communications 10. Identify funding opportunities to support initiatives 11. Collaborate with Learning Officer and volunteers to achieve aims and objectives of the organisation 12. Promote the organisation and act as an advocate for Gawthorpe Textiles Collection 13. Contribute to achieving the objectives and targets set by the Director and agreed by the Trustees, and follow the procedures and practices utilised in all aspects of work, including computerised and manual systems and the maintenance of relevant records. 14. Fulfil personal requirements where appropriate with regard to policies and procedures, particularly health and safety, customer care, emergency evacuation, security, work standards and promotion of the organisation’s core values. 15. Person Specification Experience  Minimum of three year working in a curatorial or collection management role  Working with textiles, craft, or applied arts collections  Developing and delivering displays, exhibitions and collections related programmes  Researching and writing interpretation for different audiences  Developing and implementing programmes of collections care and conservation  Writing collections policies, plans and procedures for museum Accreditation  Preparing funding / grant proposals  Documenting collections and managing a collections database  Maintaining delegated budgets  Working in partnership with community groups, other museums, arts venues, schools and /or universities Knowledge  Specialist knowledge of textiles, craft or applied arts collections and an enthusiasm for textile craft heritage  In depth knowledge of the museum Accreditation standard (especially section 2: Collections)  Excellent knowledge and practice in collections care  Good knowledge of social media Skills  Computer and collections database literacy  Excellent communications skills  Organisation, planning, project management with an attention to detail  Team working and able to work by your own initiative  Flexible working; driven and committed Qualification  Educated to degree level in a related subject
