Under Regulation 16 of the Town and Country Planning, England, Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012, there is now a 6 week consultation period on the submitted Plan. The Quarndon Neighbourhood Plan can be viewed on the Borough Council’s web-site at www.ambervalley.gov.uk/quarndonneighbourhoodplan . A hard copy of the document will be available to view at Amber Valley Borough Council, Town Hall, Market Place, Ripley, Allestree Library, Park Farm Centre, Park Farm Drive, Derby, Duffield Library, Wirksworth Road, Duffield and Queenies Tea Rooms, 114 Church Road, Quarndon between Friday 9 November 2018 and Friday 21 December 2018 during normal opening hours. Representations should be submitted by e-mail to [email protected] or by post to: Plan ning Policy, Amber Valley Borough Council, Town Hall, Market Place, Ripley, Derbyshire DE5 3BT and quote ‘Quarndon Neighbourhood Plan’. All representations should be received no later than 4.30pm on Friday 21 December 2018 . You may also request to be notified of Amber Valley Borough Council’s decision on the Quarndon Neighbourhood Plan in your submission.   • Erasmus Fowke
    1 ERASMUS FOWKE Erasmus Fowke was born in or near Quarndon, Derbyshire and baptised July 13, 1794. His parents were Thomas Fowke and Rebecca Wallstone Fowke, whose first child was Anna (or Hannah?), baptised in 1781, then Thomas, baptised in 1792, and last Rebecca, baptised in 1796. A Job is mentioned in the parish records as the son of Thomas and Mary, and the name Mary may be a mistake, as the family recollection is that Job was Erasmus’s brother. He was baptised in 1793. The baptismal dates were not necessarily close to the children’s birth dates. Quarndon was a tiny place, only a few short miles from Derby, but during the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries it was at least moderately well known in England for its healing waters. Pigot’s 1835 Directory, found on the GENUKI Internet site, states that in 1821 Quarndon had just 438 inhabitants and in 1831, 487. It also mentions that, “Sir John Curzon, in 1725, bequeathed an annuity of L20. for the support of a free school, for a limited number of children of poor parents residing in Quarndon, Kedleston and Weston.” Perhaps this was the school which provided Erasmus and his brothers with their education. There is nothing to indicate that the Fowke family had a lot of money. All three sons left the area to seek their fortunes. There is a very amusing story about a certain “Nanny Fowke” from Quarndon. It is quite unlikely that Nanny Fowke was not related to our Fowkes, given the small size of Quarndon.

    BAKEWELL MARKET Monday 15th February With only fog to contend with this week stock numbers were better with 493 cattle and 974 sheep on offer, but still lower than the equivalent market 12 months ago. Because of the reduced numbers trade was exceptional with both cattle and sheep exceeding all expectations. There were 262 Store & Breeding cattle, plenty of buying power in operation and remarkable prices achieved. There is more than enough demand, but we seem to be short of supply. If you have Store Cattle to sell call Alastair Sneddon on 07973 982441 to book them in for future markets. Steers sold to £1,260 with an average of £906, heifers to £1,215 average £847 and feeding bulls £1,040 average £703. Cows & Calves to £1,250 and in calf cows £1,200. The figures above indicate many smaller and many young Black & White Steers. Trade for the 107 Finished Cattle remains as strong as ever with the best on offer to 257p and £1,688. Those figures are impressive, but the average for the 37 heifers at 216.2p demonstrated that trade was outstanding for all types. Thinking of Selling at Bakewell, have a word with Oliver on 07801 530899 A decent entry of 86 OTM & Feeding Cows with buyers pushing very hard to secure loads. Top figures 185p and £1,546 with the average a remarkable 135.3p. 38 Calves this week, bulls to £250 and heifers £305. 699 Old Season Lambs forward with top figures 350p/kg and £156.35 per head. The SQQ average at 295.3p demonstrating that we could have certainly sold many more had they been available.

    Knowing and worshipping God and sharing His love St Nick’s, Allestree & St Paul’s, Quarndon November 2020 From “the Curate’s” kitchen November seems to be a “remembering month” with All Saints, All Souls’ and the Acts of Remembrance around Armistice Day. As I write I’ve just had a week off. Origi- nally we were supposed to be on our first ever cruise in sunnier climes, and this time last year we were in the throws of booking it. So I’ve made my Christmas cake in- stead! As I’ve mixed ingredients memories have been stirred of Christmas’ past and wondering what this year will bring. It was going to be a big Christmas with four gen- erations present for the first time… but now it could just be my husband and I. Remembering is such a bittersweet thing, isn’t it? When we remember, it is often with the joy of a cherished time being brought back to our minds, but with the sad- ness that that time is now past - that it can only be revisited in our memories. The memories themselves (perhaps triggered by a certain sight, smell, sound or date) bring a smile to our faces, but they often come tied up with a ribbon of grief because some of the people at the heart of that memory have died. It is not always easy to do so, but it is important that we know it’s ok to hold that joy and pain together – to find moments of light and laughter in the darkness - because both the joy and the pain come from the same source: love.

The report concluded that the unconstrained new housing need for the Quarndon Neighbourhood Area, for the period 2018 to 2033, is 45 dwellings. This figure has been refined as it did not take into account housing completions from 2011 to 2017 (34 dwellings), and reduces the unconstrained figure to 36 dwellings, equating to an average of 2.4/year over the Plan period. 2.2 The NDP however adds a further reduction to this total, due to constraints including Green Belt, heritage assets and the village’s low position in the Spatial Hierarchy, leaving a total requirement of 1-2 dwellings per annum (15-30 dwellings over the plan period).

DE22 2LL) Edward Smith was private secretary to the Evans of Allestree Hall, first to William Evans who died in 1856 (Note 1) and then to his son, Thomas William Evans. His secretaryship commenced on 15th July 1843 and continued for over 25 years until his death in 1869. During at least some of this time he kept diaries. Some of these have survived, being valued by family members up to this present time (Note 2). Those known to be still extant are for the years 1856-1859 and 1863-1869, thus covering just over l0 years.
