The big left-handed hitter feasted on Appalachian League pitching, putting up a .324 batting average with 13 home runs and 38 RBI in 41 games. Despite being called up to Single-A Rome on August 12, Ball is currently at or near the top of the league leaderboard in several categories. He was selected as the league’s All-Star left-handed pitcher. He posted a 3-5 record in 11 games, making nine starts. His ERA of 2.25 is still the best in the Appalachian League, and his 69 strikeouts also lead the league. Stallings is ranked second in both innings pitched (56.0) and WHIP (1.14) and third in opponent batting average (.243) among qualified pitchers. He set a career high in strikeouts with an 11-strikeout game on June 26 at Blue- field and matched that on August 2 against Princeton. Those marked the most strikeouts a Danville pitcher has had since Ronan Pacheco struck out 13 on July 28, 2010. Stallings was selected as the Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 24-30.     MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. Sullivan / MLB.com | 6/15/2014 8:09 PM ET SEATTLE -- Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma had a big advantage in his Father's Day pitching duel against Rangers starter Nick Martinez. Iwakuma had Kyle Seager on his side. Seager has a tendency to turn into George Brett when he sees the Rangers' uniform in the opposing dugout, and that made the difference on Sunday afternoon at Safeco Field. Martinez, who had an 11.08 ERA in his last three starts, was much better on Sunday against Iwakuma. But Seager, on a 4-for-4 afternoon, put the Mariners ahead with a two-run double in the fifth and they went on to a 5-1 victory over the Rangers. The loss snapped the Rangers' three-game winning streak although they still took two of three from the Mariners to open their nine-game road trip. The Rangers' next stop is Oakland for a three-game series with the division-leading Athletics. Seager also had a double in the Mariners' three-run eighth inning against relievers Robbie Ross Jr. and Ben Rowen, who was making his Major League debut. "He doesn't miss much when we face him," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "The first couple of days I thought we did a good job against him, but today when we made a mistake he didn't miss it."
