Meandered outside one gorgeous morning in mid-April. Noticed an eagle riding a thermal over by the northwest corner of the main field, effortlessly adjusting its circles to stay high aloft. Below it, another large bird beat its wings, gliding and flapping to gain altitude. When it finally got above the eagle, it dove at the per- ceived intruder. The eagle was not to be undone. It quickly flipped onto its back, presenting razor-sharp talons to the attacker, who flashed past without making contact. Then the eagle re- sumed its dignified flight, gliding overhead with its white head and tail gleaming in the rising sun.

June and July are very busy months for rides, picnics, and dinners. By checking local calendars (we use www.UBSO. info and www.werideoregon. com ), we find lots of other events to support during the summer. And of course Facebook is a popular place to find local last minute events. August 1 will be the 37th annual Run to the Coast. For 25 years this was hosted by KAJO/ KLDR radio station and was called the Sandwich Run. Twelve years ago Josephine County Chapter took over and changed it to a poker run. The bikes go out in smaller groups which are safer on the narrow windy roads going from Grants Pass to Brookings. We’ve kept the price at $10 per hand. Prizes this year will be $200/$150/$75. Sign in at J.D.’s Sports Pub and Deli. Come early and have breakfast. First bike out at 10 a.m. For anyone not going to Sturgis, there will be an Oregon weekend event down at Wolf Creek park. August 7-9 will be the Annual S.O.S. Run. Derek Michael Marc and Double AA will be the featured band. Wet T contest, bike games, bike show, and all the usual vendors. Janie and Annette and the TaTa Sistas will be away at Sturgis, but we will try to hold down the fort and do the best we can while they are away. The state board of directors meeting will be held at the big gazebo in the park on Saturday. All members are invited to attend. are being kept the same as they have been for many years: $25 members, $30 non-members, and day passes on Saturday. We always close out the year with our annual Grants Pass Toy Run. Saturday, October 3rd, we will gather at the Fruitdale Grange at around noon. Kick Stands up at 1 p.m. for a quick ride through town. Then back to the grange for a scrumptious potluck. This year we are asking that if you want to eat, bring some food to share. If you want to come in, please bring a new, clean, unwrapped toy or $5. Remember, this is for the kids. Please donate generously. As always, we will have drawings and silent auction items. Our sponsors are very generous in Josephine county. Josephine County Chapter meets the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Fruitdale Grange. If you are not getting a reminder call, but would like to, please let me know and you will get added to the call list. March, June, September, November, and December we have potluck at our meetings. Other months we have soft drinks, water, and coffee available.
