Ann was born at Horsmonden in around 1697. After their marriage John and Ann lived at Horsmonden where their first three children – Susan (1714), John (1716) and Thomas (1718) were born. Following his father’s death in 1711, John was given sole access to eighty acres of land known as the ‘Kettles’ as well as joint access to two pieces of land known as Castoins Field and the Great Tutchburys, all in the vicinity of Horsmonden and Lamberhurst. This may have facilitated John and Ann’s move, in around 1722, from Horsemonden to Lamberhurst where their last eight children were baptised.

He came to Lamberhurst in 1722 with his parents and stayed there for much of his life. Elizabeth was born at Bekesbourne near Canterbury in Kent in 1723. She and Thomas had seven children between 1746 and 1764, all of whom were born at Lamberhurst: Nathaniel, John, Thomas, Richard, Joseph, Elizabeth and Sarah.

He and Mary lived all their married lives at Lamberhurst and had at least six children there: James (1761); John (1763-1854)=Sarah Bailey at Lamberhurst in 1792; William (1766)=Elizabeth Mace at Horsmonden in 1789; Thomas (1769- 1854)=Elizabeth Wibley at Lamberhurst in 1788; Elizabeth (1771); and Lydia (1773-1808)=Edward Jeffrey at Brenchley in 1790. We think that Mary died in around 1774 and James married an Ann Unknown. They had one daughter, Ruth (1775-1864)=William Boorman at Lamberhurst in 1793. ]

Russell and Sarah lived all their married lives in Lamberhurst and had six children there: Dunster (1764-92); David (1766-88); Timothy (1768- 1855)=Sarah Langley at West Peckham in 1796; Daniel (1771-1849)=Jane Ledger at Lamberhurst in 1794; Sarah (1773)=William Martin at Leybourne in 1796; and Sophia (1776)=Edward Hammond at Maidstone in 1797.

Grace was born at Wadhurst in 1748, the daughter of John Swift and Grace Hosmer. The couple had four children we know of: Elizabeth (1770)=Robert Smith at Wadhurst in 1793; Nathaniel (1778- 1859)=Mary Tomset at Lamberhurst in 1802; Priscilla (1781-1859)=Isaac Pearson at London in around 1824; and Richard (1786). Grace died in Lamberhurst in 1798 and Nathaniel remarried, to Patience Smith in London in 1799.

9 Hickmott. He married Sarah Bailey at Lamberhurst in 1792. The couple lived all their lives at Lamberhurst and had five children we know of there: James, Martha, Elizabeth, Harriet and Sarah.

1875 Martha HICKMOTT, 76 Ticehurst bdm This is probably the eldest daughter of John and Sarah Hickmott (nee Bailey) of Lamberhurst. Baptised there in 1794, Martha never married and lived at Lamberhurst all of her life.
