In the court of public opin- ion, they are correct 50 per- cent of the time. It’s unfair to consider them weekend warriors because they have as much passion for what they do on Friday nights and Saturdays as they do their regular jobs. They don’t do it for the paycheck or to give the ego a jolt. They are high school football officials because they enjoy the game. According to Earl Harris, a 30-yard veteran of football officiating, the Wyoming Val- ley Mickey Noonan Chapter of high school football offi- cials has 35 to 40 members. And it’s always looking for new officials. For that reason, Harris, along with Chuck Suppon, Mike Monaghan, Bill Monaghan and Wayne Was- lasky — all veteran officials themselves — offered a course to teach aspiring ref- erees the trade. The four-week course met two nights a week to help prepare prospective refs to take the PIAA officiating exam. “Everybody did very well,”
