It’s a season of firsts once the action gets underway as FOX Sports becomes the only NFL broadcaster to cover two games from London in the same season, the first of which features the earliest kickoff in NFL history. London contest number-one pits the Detroit Lions against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Oct. 26 live at 9:30 AM ET. Two weeks later on Sunday Nov. 9, Dallas takes on Jacksonville live in a traditional 1:00 PM ET window. Both games are played at London’s storied Wembley Stadium, and the 9:30 AM ET kickoff on Oct. 26 provides the NFL its first-ever regularly scheduled four-game Sunday. The NFL on FOX is scheduled to broadcast 97 regular-season games, including the traditional Thanksgiving Day contest featuring a classic NFC East showdown as the defending division champion Philadelphia Eagles travel to Texas to face off against the rival Dallas Cowboys. The Super Bowl XLVIII Champion Seattle Seahawks make 10 appearances on FOX this season, while the NFC runner-up San Francisco 49ers and the NFC North Champion Green Bay Packers appear nine times each. The Eagles appear eight times, the NFC Wild Card winner New Orleans Saints are featured 10 times, and the NFC South Champion Carolina Panthers make the most appearances of any 2013 playoff squad with 11. In addition, three of the NFC’s traditional powers, the New York Giants (10), Cowboys (9) and Chicago Bears (9) are prominently featured in the 2014 NFL on FOX schedule. Week 1 features strong AMERICA’S GAME OF THE WEEK matchups anchored by Colin Kaepernick and the powerhouse San Francisco 49ers battling Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys from Arlington, Texas on Sunday, Sept. 7. Each week, coverage begins with FOX NFL SUNDAY (12:00-1:00 PM ET/9:00-10:00 AM PT), America’s most-watched pregame show for 20 straight seasons. Terry Bradshaw and Curt Menefee return as co-hosts alongside analysts Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson and Michael Strahan. Bradshaw, Menefee, Long, Johnson and Strahan are joined by NFL insider Jay Glazer and NFL rules analyst Mike Pereira. Since its premiere in September 1994, FOX NFL SUNDAY has won 20 Emmy Awards for its production and personalities, including four for Outstanding Studio Show. Once playoff teams are determined, the NFL on FOX presents exclusive live postseason coverage, including an NFC Wild Card Game on Sunday, Jan. 4, the NFC Divisional Playoffs, Saturday, Jan. 10 and Sunday, Jan. 11 and culminating with the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 19. The 2014 NFL on FOX season kicks off with a pair of exciting preseason matchups beginning Sunday, August 17 (8:00 PM ET), as Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs head to Carolina for a battle with Cam Newton and the Panthers. On Sunday, August 24 (4:00 PM ET), Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers head north to San Francisco to take on Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers from brand-new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., marking the venue’s first national television appearance. The 2013 NFL on FOX regular season marked FOX Sports’ most-watched since the network began broadcasting NFL games in 1994, with an average of audience of 21.2 million viewers. AMERICA’S GAME OF THE WEEK continued to rank as the most-watched show in television, and last season marked the program’s highest-rated and most-watched on record, averaging a sensational 15.9/29 with 27.2 million viewers. FOX Sports’ four most-watched NFL seasons have all come within the last four years, and last year’s NFL on FOX schedule averaged +19% higher rating over its performance five years ago and +21% higher SUPER BOWL XLV ON FOX IS MOST-WATCHED PROGRAM IN TV HISTORY Game Obliterates Prior Record; Sets Super Bowl Mark for Fourth Straight Year Prime Time Audience Exceeds 100 Million for First Time Irving, TX – History was made last night on FOX when Super Bowl XLV became the most- watched U.S. television program ever, and FOX became the first network ever to exceed 100 million viewers (100.9 million) for a night in prime time, according to fast-national ratings released today by Nielsen Media Research. The game, the outcome of which was in doubt until the final seconds, saw the Green Bay Packers defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 to capture the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl Championship. FOX Sports’ broadcast of Super Bowl XLV averaged 111 million viewers and is the most- watched television program in U.S. history, obliterating the prior record of 106.5 set last year during Super Bowl XLIV by 4.5 million viewers and the 106.0 million for the series finale of M*A*S*H, which held the viewership record from 1983 to 2010. This is the fourth consecutive Super Bowl to set a viewership record, and attracted 13.5 million more viewers than FOX’s last Super Bowl broadcast in 2008 (97.5 million) for the New York Giants upset of the undefeated New England Patriots. No other major sporting event has ever hit a record high in four consecutive years. This also marks the sixth straight year that Super Bowl viewership has increased, and over that span average Super Bowl viewership has increased from 86.1 million in 2005 to 111.0 million, a gain of nearly 25 million viewers.

  • Eagles' Team Travel
PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn PHILADELPHIA EAGLES Team History The Eagles have been a Philadelphia institution since their beginning in 1933 when a syndicate headed by the late Bert Bell and Lud Wray purchased the former Frankford Yellowjackets franchise for $2,500. In 1941, a unique swap took place between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that saw the clubs trade home cities with Alexis Thompson becoming the Eagles owner. In 1943, the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh franchises combined for one season due to the manpower shortage created by World War II. The team was called both Phil-Pitt and the Steagles. Greasy Neale of the Eagles and Walt Kiesling of the Steelers were co-coaches and the team finished 5-4-1. Counting the 1943 season, Neale coached the Eagles for 10 seasons and he led them to their first significant successes in the NFL. Paced by such future Pro Football Hall of Fame members as running back Steve Van Buren, center-linebacker Alex Wojciechowicz, end Pete Pihos and beginning in 1949, center-linebacker Chuck Bednarik, the Eagles dominated the league for six seasons. They finished second in the NFL Eastern division in 1944, 1945 and 1946, won the division title in 1947 and then scored successive shutout victories in the 1948 and 1949 championship games. A rash of injuries ended Philadelphia’s era of domination and, by 1958, the Eagles had fallen to last place in their division. That year, however, saw the start of a rebuilding program by a new coach, Buck Shaw, and the addition of quarterback Norm Van Brocklin in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
