TREATMENT BLOCK DETAILS: Treatment block Mataketake Podocarp-hardwood forest with silver beech appearing at about 300m asl and gradually increasing to nearly pure silver Vegetation type beech. Parts of the operational area contain significant populations of mistletoe. Bioclimatic zone lowland coastal Pestlink Ref: 1011SWS05 Date Printed: 25 May 2011 Page 5 of 16 semi-coastal sub-montane montane sub-alpine Climate characteristics: Rainfall 5000 mm Temperature: Average Summer 15.0 Average Winter 5.0 Snow level 1000 m Altitude 20 m There are some high use public facilities within the block boundary's including Ships Creek and Knights Point. Both these areas are adjacent to the main road with Ships Creek providing two short walks. The Haast to Paringa cattle track Community and also runs through the middle of the block which includes Iwi interests three huts and a four wheel drive track. Blowfly and Coppermine creek both receive moderate visitor numbers. The block also surrounds some private land at Coppermine creek which is grazed. The Waita river also has a grazing concession which is affected by the operation. The Cattle track is maintained as an historic track and Historic sites Blowfly hut was built to service this track. Knights point memorial is also an historic site. Treatment block Moeraki Podocarp-hardwood forest with silver beech appearing at about 300m asl and gradually increasing to nearly pure silver Vegetation type beech forest at the top of Moeraki Hill. Parts of the operational area contain significant populations of mistletoe. Bioclimatic zone lowland sub-montane sub-alpine montane Climate characteristics: Rainfall 5000 mm Temperature: Average Summer 15.0 Average Winter 5.0 Snow level 1100 m Altitude 200 m Community and There are a number of walking tracks in the area including Iwi interests several back country huts, the block is also adjacent to the Pestlink Ref: 1011SWS05 Date Printed: 25 May 2011 Page 6 of 16 popular Haast Paringa cattle track. This area is also part of the Haast roar ballot system with two blocks being in the valley. This area is also a popular hunting spot in the spring. No historic sites are known to be in this block but it is Historic sites directly adjacent to the historic Haast to Paringa cattle track and Blowfly hut. Treatment block Whakapohai Podocarp-hardwood forest with silver beech appearing at about 300m asl and gradually increasing to nearly pure silver Vegetation type beech forest at the top of Moeraki Hill. Parts of the operational area contain significant populations of mistletoe. Bioclimatic zone lowland sub-montane montane sub-alpine Climate characteristics: Rainfall 4000 mm Temperature: Average Summer 15.0 Average Winter 5.0 Snow level 1100 m Altitude 100-1200 m This area is part of the Haast roar ballot as an open block Community and moderate interest is shown in the area by hunters during the Iwi interests Roar and Spring/Summer. There is a house at the mouth of the river which takes its water supply directly from the river.
