2.0 INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/BACKGROUND INFORMATION

2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent The proposed project area is found to have good deposits of Gravel. It is used in infrastructure development.

2.2 Brief Information about the Project The mining lease area of 2.77 Ac/ 1.121 Ha., is located in Non-forest, Government land. Open cast mining is followed and it has been proposed to produce approximately 10,000 cu. m./annum of Gravel. The nearest habitation is Dokiparru Village located at a distance of 0.5 Km due NE of Quarry Lease.

2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region The demand for Gravel has increased due to rapid industrialization and growth in infrastructure. So the number of Gravel producing quarries is increasing in . Due to bifurcation of State, there is a huge demand for Gravel.

As per EIA notification 2006 project proponent is submitting the proposal to get Environment Clearance for QL area of 2.77 Ac/ 1.121 Ha. from District Level Environmental Appraisal Committee/District level Impact Assessment Authority of Guntur constituted by MoEF, GOI for the purpose of operating the quarry lease for which Notification is issued.

2.4 Demands-Supply Gap There is huge demand since the material is used extensively in building construction infrastructure development. This project will help in reducing the Demand-Supply gap in the area.

2.5 Domestic/ Export Markets The material is used in the domestic market and in there is no scope for exporting the material.

2.6 Employment Generation Proposed mining is semi-mechanized method and this project operation will provide livelihood to the 25 workers. It will provide employment to the people residing in vicinity.

3.5 Geology and Reserves

3.5.1 Regional Geological setup The area constitutes southern-most part of Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt (EGMB), where the belt is tapering to less than 20 km width. EGMB is trending in NNE – SSW in the area. This area EGMB mainly represented by Western zone. The succession of EsternGhat Super Group is as follws:

Intrusives Layered Anorthosites and associated Mafics and Chromiferrous Ultra Mafics. Charnockite Charnockites with Mega Crystic K-Feldspar Charnockite, Two Pyroxene Group Granulite/ Amphibolites 7

The Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt is fold thrust teraain, the margins defined by westerly

3.5.2 Local Geology

Present area constitutes part of Western Charnockite zone represented mainly of Charnockite and basic granulite with minor banded iron formation. Lithologically the lease area is underlain by Charnockite, which is fresh looking, greasy, dark coloured with domination of hypersthenes, blue quartz minerals in it.

The Charnockite in the area forms dome shaped, steepy sloping hills. The rock is medium to coarse grained texture composed of greasy quartz, hypersthene, orthoclase and plagioclase with or without garnet.

The rock is massive, with widely spaced vertical to sub vertical joints trending in NE-SW direction. It is observed that sheet joints are absent. Owing to its compact and hardness charnockite with stand to weathering and form huge, steepy sloping dome shaped hills in the area.

3.5.3 Exploration Gravel quarries as the lease area is located on undulating land with surface relief of 1.5 m. The Gravels found to be normal in that area, the deposit is being worked out to an average depth of 6 m only.

3.5.4 Reserves Reserves of Gravel are estimated by Cross Sectional Area method. One cross section was drawn in the lease area and the summary of reserves are given in the below table:

TABLE 5.1: Geological Reserves

S. Sectional Volume No. Category Section Area(m2) Influence (m) (m3) 1 577.82 Proved A - A' 116 67028

Mineable Reserves

Mineable reserves are calculated by deducting the reserves blocked under benches and reserves blocked in 7.5 m buffer zone from the total geological reserves. Only proved reserves are considered for calculating the mineable reserves. The details of reserves blocked under benches & safety zone are given in table below:

A. Total Proved Geological Reserves (m3) : 67,028

B. Reserves Blocked under benches (m3) : 348

C. Reserves Blocked under 7.5m Buffer Zone (m3) : 11,310

Mineable Reserves (A-(B+C)) (m3) : 55,370 Average Annual Production : 10,000

Life of the Mine : 55,370/10,000 = 5.53 Say 6 years

100% recovery of the Gravel is considered from the quarry.

3.6 PROJECT DESCRIPTION WITH PROCESS DETAILS

3.6.1 Method of Mining

The Gravel in the Quarry lease applied area is exposed on the surface. Hence, it is proposed to mine the Gravel by open cast, using semi-mechanized method by developing the benches of 6 M height with 2 slices of 3 m and 3 M bench width with shallow drilling and blasting. The development of benches will be maintained @ 40 - 600 safety slopes.

Drilling Drill holes of 1.5 – 3.0 m depth will be drilled in a staggered pattern at 3 m. interval: i) Drill hole diameter : 32 mm up to 1.5 – 3.0 m long ii) Depth and inclination of drill hole : Generally drilled vertically in an alignment iii) Explosive type : Detonator Fuse/Anfo with detonators

It is proposed to produce 50,000 Cu. m. of Gravel during five years plan period with an average annual production of 10,000 Cu. M. from an area of 0.824 ha. one Bench of 6 m height will be developed during the plan period.

a) Removal / Excavation of O.B. and other Quarry Waste: No Waste is generated in Gravel.

3.7 Raw Material Required Along With Estimated Quantity, Likely Source, Marketing Area of Final Product/S, Mode of Transport of Raw Material and Finished Product No raw material will be required in the proposed project. The operation involves the extraction of Gravel and dumping in stock yard.

3.7.1 Use of Mineral The Gravel carried out will be used for construction of structures and for infrasture projects.

3.7.2 Processing The Gravel produced will be stocked within the mining lease area and will be loaded in tippers and transported to the crushing plant proposed near the quarry lease area. A separate stock yard is earmarked for stacking.

3.8 Resource Optimization/ Recycling and Reuse Not envisaged.

3.9.1 Availability of Water Its Source, Energy/ Power Requirement and Source 3.9.1 Water Requirement Water is required only for drinking purposes, green belt and dust suppression. The number of working people is around 25 so the total water requirement will be around 2.5 KLD. This water will be supplied through tankers from nearby area.
