DISKS FOR CPGA GIGS - REMINDER The disks are going to be attached to as many gigs as possible while the boats are in the Scillies. This task is being undertaken by Brian Nobbs (boatbuilder) assisted by Justin Harmer. The disk is a stainless steel ‘tag’ individually engraved with CPGA and the unique number to the boat. They will be screwed to the stern post.

We would therefore ask permission from all clubs to do this while there is the opportunity. It will be assumed that unless anything is heard from the club, the consent is given. For any gigs not on the islands, clubs will be contacted later. Thanks to all for your co-operation, please make life easy for those performing the task, it should only take a matter of minutes per gig.

DBS Tap hereLast to year add a a caption number of people were able to have their DBS verification completed while on the islands. This is also possible this year, but you need to inform [email protected] which members of your club will be requiring this service and only if all the information has been logged by the individuals on the Council

IOS STEAMSHIP GROUP AND DEVON AND CORNWALL POLICE - MESSAGE

This is a message from the Steamship Group working with Devon and Cornwall Police.

We are sure you will have a wonderful visit to the magical Isles of Scilly and to those of you that are travelling to the Islands for the World Pilot Gig Championships Weekend, a special welcome.

So that visitors, competitors and spectators and the Island communities can enjoy this event safely we will not be allowing drunken and disorderly passengers to board the III either at or St Mary’s Quays.

If you are refused passage either on St Mary’s Quay or Penzance Quay because of your behaviour, the costs of return transport and accommodation are yours. The cost to your reputation and that of your Gig Club is most definitely yours.

Please help us to make this a successful and safe event for visitors and Islanders and everyone travelling on board RMV Scillonian III.

IOS 2018

Following the resignation of Chairman Rick Persich in February the Gig Committee appealed to the residents of Scilly for additional volunteers to help with the organisation of the event. The appeal has proved to be a success and interim Chairman Kevin Sherris said “I am delighted with the offers of help that have come forward and we are currently slotting the new volunteers into their roles for the event later this month and then we will have a ‘wash-up’ meeting after the champs and elect a new Chairman for the 2018 competition”

Kevin was the previous Chairman before Rick took the reins some ten years ago and indeed has been the Vice Chair during Ricks time and was therefore the natural choice to cover this year’s event, Kevin went on to say “I am looking forward to this year’s racing but due to business and family commitments I’m sadly not able to become the Chairman moving forward. Rick was an outstanding Chairman and I totally understand his decision to step down to enable him to have more time to enjoy the Islands’ and get out fishing!”

The 2018 event will start with the Vets races on Friday 4th May 2018 with the finals on Sunday 6th May 2018.
