Opening Day “Testing Across Chicagoland” – June 5

The Collaborative provided rapid HIV testing services to high risk populations at 6 locations in and South Suburban Chicago. Over 500 participants were tested and provided with prevention information and safer sex materials. Testing locations included:  18th & Paulina (near CTA Pink Line)  Central & Lake (near CTA Green Line)  Wilson & Broadway (near CTA Red Line)  Jeffery & 71st Street  Humboldt Park at Norwegian American Hospital  159th & Wood (South Suburbs)

Educational Forum: “Bringing Down the Incidence of HIV in Chicago” – June 19, 2014, Chicago, IL

Fifty healthcare professionals attended the educational forum sponsored by the Collaborative and Abbott Laboratories featuring Nancy Glick, MD from Mt. Sinai Hospital discussing the importance of adopting the use of 4th generation HIV testing technology to identify more HIV cases during the acute infection stage.

Town Hall: Conversation & Song with Jenifer Lewis – June 26, 2014, Chicago, IL

Over 200 guests attended a Town Hall event featuring Jenifer Lewis, a nationally known singer and actress as well as activist for mental health, LGBT equality and HIV/AIDS. The 3 hour event featured musical performances and a Q & A session between Ms. Lewis and town hall attendees. Topics of discussion included: adopting healthy behaviors and acknowledging the importance of good health.

Culminating Event – June 27, 2014 @ James R. Thompson Center, State of Building, Chicago, IL

The culminating event was held on National HIV Testing Day and featured a press conference and free rapid HIV testing as well as the launch of the Illinois Lottery’s Red Ribbon Cash lotto ticket. The press conference featured remarks from LaMar Hasbrouck, MD, Illinois Department of Public Health Director, Dr. Robert A. Weinstein, MD, Chief Operating Officer of Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center, Nanette Benbow, Chicago Department of Public Health, Deputy Commissioner of HIV/STI Service Division, IL State Senator Jaqueline Collins and Cherita A. Logan, IL 7th District Director Congressman Danny K. Davis and Michael Jones, director of The Illinois Lottery. Testing was provided to 364 participants; one newly diagnosed and one known HIV positive individuals were identified.

Strategic Communications Planning and Counsel

. Developed a communications plan and timeline for the campaign . Provided strategic recommendations for social media . Created a toolkit for initiative partners including key messaging, media materials and a social media Tip Sheet and presented the toolkit to partners at the SUGT retreat on May 8 . Provided guidance on the design and development of SUGT posters/flyers

Media Relations

. Drafted media advisories and conducted local media outreach for the campaign’s simultaneous testing day and the June 27 news conference . Coordinated PSA development with Greater Than AIDS and . Provided recommendations for news conference speakers/agenda . Coordinated live remote interview segments with Crawford Broadcasting at June 27 news conference . Provided communications counsel to initiative partners/sponsors, including Alere, WET® Lubricant and Gilead . Held an in-person meeting and provided counsel on media partnership opportunities with WGN-FM radio

Monitoring and Reporting

. Held weekly conference calls with SUGT committee and provided weekly media updates

To demonstrate our commitment to the SUGT mission and support of the excellent work that the Chicagoland HIV Testing Collaborative does, PCI contributed more than $9,528 in pro bono services toward SUGT promotion between the months of April and July to ensure the campaign was a resounding success.
