Eastern / Midwestern Joint Fall Regional Buffalo, August 30 – September 2, 2019

Visit Buffalo, New York where history was made on Labor Day weekend. We will stay at the newly remodeled Buffalo Grand Hotel, formerly the Adam’s Mark Hotel, in downtown Buffalo. The hotel has under cover parking at a nominal charge of $5 per day for guests with in and out driving privilege. Air travelers can fly into Buffalo-Niagara airport, which serves many major airlines. There is no hotel shuttle. However, one can use the downtown shuttle, take a taxi or call UBER for a ride. The hotel is near the waterfront so one can meander to the waterfront as well as wander around downtown. The waterfront has retired naval ships and a naval museum to visit. , a growing recreational area, recreates the original terminus of the into the Buffalo River and Lake Erie. The weekend package includes three nights lodging, three hotel buffet breakfasts, two dinners and three hospitality gatherings. A buffet dinner on Saturday will be in the hotel following mass. On Sunday we will have dinner at a nearby restaurant at the marina. Cost is $390 for a double and $590 for a single.

For early arrivals there will be an optional sailboat ride on Lake Erie at 6:00 pm where one can purchase cocktails. This will be followed by dinner at the Pearl Street Grill where craft beers are available for purchase. The cost is $65. A city tour is planned for Saturday. We will visit the Wilcox Mansion where Theodore Roosevelt was sworn in as president of the United States. There you will see a re-creation of the oval office. You can sit at the president’s desk and have your picture taken as President! We will stop at the where the chicken wing was invented. There you can have lunch on your own and taste Buffalo cuisine. Look at hung pictures to see what famous people have visited the Anchor Bar. We will then visit the Buffalo History Museum which was built for the Pan- American Exposition in 1901. A copy of the pistol used to assassinate president McKinley is on display in the museum. There you can also see the apostle clock built by a Buffalo clock maker. If there is enough time we will stop at the Freedom Wall, recently commissioned by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, a mural which depicts 28 portraits of notable civil rights leaders. The cost is $50 for the city tour. No official tour is offered for Sunday but the group can car pool to Niagara Falls. There one can catch a trolley to visit several lookout points at nominal cost. There is also the Maid-of-the-Mist boat ride to the base of the Horseshoe Falls and the Cave of the Winds walk to the base of the American Falls.

An optional event to visit is the chicken wing festival held at the baseball park for the weekend. One can try various chicken wing coatings competing for prizes. Beverages are also available for purchase. St. Joseph’s Cathedral is near the hotel if you wish to visit and say a prayer. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery a short drive away exhibits modern art. Reservations deadline is July 15, 2019. Reservations postmarked after July 15, 2019 will be charged a late fee of $25.00. No refunds after August 1, 2019. If canceling after August 15, 2019 there will be a cancellation fee of $50.00.
