Girlguiding Shield Mystery When I was District Commissioner for Girlguiding Ware, a very old competition shield came into my possession.

It was first awarded in 1929 and finally (after a 3 year break for the war, I guess) in 1944. However, there are no clues as to what competition the shield was for. I would like to try and find out more about it. As it was won 3 times by a group from Standon & Puckeridge, I submit this article in the hope that there is still somebody locally who may remember it. I appreciate that as it was last awarded in 1944, this likelihood is ever decreasing as the years move on. I have tried searching Girlguiding and press archives as well as asking members of Ware District Trefoil Guild but, more than 14 years later, I still am yet to come across anybody who can enlighten me. What competition was it for? Was it awarded to Guides or Brownies? It could even have been a Scout group, in which case, goodness knows how I ended up with it! If you can help discover the history behind the shield, please email me: [email protected] . If I can solve the mystery, I can make sure it is stored in a more appropriate place than the corner of my attic.
