Dan Spencer Era MLB Draft/Free Agent Picks (2008-2012)
Dan Spencer came to the Texas Tech program in 2008, and in five years Spencer and the Texas Tech coaches have helped produce 19 play- ers who have been drafted/signed free agent by Major League Baseball organizations. Overall, the Red Raiders have had 12 pitchers (8 RHP, 4 LHP), two outfielders, one catcher and four infielder drafted during the last four years. Spencer has coached five players who have been top-10 round draft picks, including three in 2008 and 2010 second-round selection (76th overall) Chad Bettis and fourth-round pick Bobby Doran (123rd overall). In addition, Spencer coached 45 players at Oregon State (1997-2007) that were drafted, including 21 top-10 round picks, 10 top-five round selections and three first-round picks. In Spencer’s final season with the Beavers in 2007, Oregon State had two first-round picks and a total of six top-10 selections. Nine of Spencer’s players at Oregon State have made their big league debuts and one of Spencer’s pitchers at Texas Tech (Zach Stewart) has made it to the big leagues.
