BSECTION Sports Pitt’s rising star fired STAFF REPORTS PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh University fired head football coach Mike Haywood last weekend, saying he could not con- tinue in the job he held for only 2-1/2 weeks after his arrest on a domestic vio- lence charge. Haywood was released Saturday from St. Joseph County Jail in Indiana on $1,000 cash bond after the charge was upgraded from a misdemeanor to felony domestic battery in the presence of a minor. By Bonitta Best The Triangle Tribune DURHAM – Hillside junior varsity girls have lost only one game this sea- son. On Wednesday night, the Lady Hornets got sweet revenge from that loss last November to Cardinal Gibbons. Hillside rallied from a one-point half- time deficit to dominate the second half and take a 57-41 win. After trailing 25-24, the Lady Hornets out-scored the Lady Crusaders 33 to 16 in the second half. Bryanna Staton was the only player in double figures with 11, but Hillside gave a total team effort. The Lady Hornets travel to East Chapel Hill next Tuesday.

Falcons fly over Hornets DURHAM - After Southern High School, Jordan is probably Hillside's next biggest rivalry. Junior varsity makes the competition no less intense. On Tuesday, Jordan had all the intensity as the Falcons easily defeat- ed their cross-town rival 53-47. Don't let the final score fool you; the game wasn't that close. Jordan led almost from the start and overran the Hornets with their size and quickness. Hillside trailed 16-9 after the first Hillside took control in the second period and 32-13 at halftime. For all the latest Johnson's seven points, but the closest in HBCU and they could get was six points. Jordan center Jared Hendrix led all junior varsity sports, scorers with 15 points, 10 rebounds keep up with and 2 blocks. The Triangle Tribune S.
