First and foremost, this fetching 71cm-tall sterling silver trophy. The UEFA Nations League trophy was revealed on stage by UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin in January 2018 just prior to the inaugural league phase draw. It has been inspired by the UEFA Nations League logo, a first for a UEFA competition. The flag that represents all 55 UEFA national associations competing within the promotion/ relegation format is elegantly wrapped around a flag pole. The trophy is entirely made of sterling silver that on the inside carries the competition colours. The reflection of these colours on the silver surface is one of the characteristics that make this trophy unique. “The first thing we wanted was for people to start thinking what this trophy represented – the pinnacle of a nation, the raising of a flag,” said Hélder Pombinho, creative director of the brand agency responsible for the trophy. “When we see this trophy being raised, that’s what we imagine, as if we were watching the flags of all the nations being raised, as the high point of winning this tournament.” 5 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals | Press Kit POT ALLOCATION No seeding applies for the draw of the Finals. POT 1 Italy Belgium France Spain Pot 1 The two match pairings A and B are determined as follows: • The team drawn first is the home team of match pairing A. • The team drawn second is the away team of match pairing A. • The third team drawn is the home team of match pairing B. • Pot 1 is emptied and the draw finished with the fourth team drawn being the away team of match pairing B. If the second and fourth team drawn is the host team, the relevant semi-final pairing is switched around so that the host team is declared the home team. The match pairing which includes the host team is considered to be semi-final 1, the other match pairing is semi-final 2. 6 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals | Press Kit TEAMS ITALY BELGIUM FRANCE SPAIN 7 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals | Press Kit TEAM PROFILE: ITALY Coach: Roberto Mancini Association formed: 1898 2018/19 UEFA Nations League: 2nd Group A3 Route to the 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals Pos. • Barcelona Beats Espanyol in Brutal Copa Cup Match
Sports FRIDAY, JANUARY 8, 2016 Everton beats Man City in 1st leg of FA cup semi LIVERPOOL: A Merseyside derby in the English League Cup final was closer to reality after Everton beat Manchester City 2-1 in the first leg of their semifinal on Wednesday, with in-form Romelu Lukaku grabbing the winner. Lukaku scored his 19th goal of the season when he headed home late at Goodison Park, giving Everton a deserved lead to take to City for the second leg on Jan. 27. Liverpool, Everton’s close neighbor and biggest rival, leads Stoke 1-0 after the first leg of the other semifinal. The Merseyside clubs met in the 1984 final, which Liverpool won, during a period in which they were the dominant teams in the country. There are still 90 minutes to go in both matchups - the second legs are in three weeks - but Everton manager Roberto Martinez said his team will take confidence from the manner of this victory, outplaying City at times. Ramiro Funes Mori put Everton ahead in first-half injury time, steering home a rebound from close range after Ross Barkley’s shot was parried out, and the hosts were pressing for a second goal - perhaps over-zealously - when City equalized on a counterattack in the 76th. Sergio Aguero controlled a long clearance forward and had only two defenders in front of him on the halfway line. The striker laid in a perfectly weighted pass for substitute Jesus Navas, who had sprinted upfield in support and met the ball with a first-time diagonal shot past goalkeeper Joel Robles.
