The President made a statement on the earthquake in Abruzzo and, on behalf of Parliament, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

4. Verification of credentials

At the proposal of the JURI Committee, Parliament validated the mandate of Bernard Soulage, with effect from 1 February 2009, and Ioan Lucian Hămbășan, with effect from 1 March 2009.

5. The ‘Say NO to Violence against Women’ campaign (written declaration)

Written Declaration 0094/2008 by Eva-Britt Svensson on the ‘Say NO to Violence against Women’ campaign had been signed by the majority of Parliament's component Members. Consequently, in accord­ ance with Rule 116(4), it would be forwarded to its addressees and published, together with the names of the signatories, in the Texts Adopted of the sitting of 22 April 2009.

8. Announcement by the President

By letter of 7 April 2009, the ECON Committee had stated that the Accounting Regulatory Committee had approved the draft Commission regulations adopting certain international accounting standards.

Pursuant to Article 5a of the Council decision of 28 June 1999 laying down the procedures for the exercise of implementing powers conferred on the Commission (1999/468/EC), Parliament may oppose the adoption of these implementing measures.

The ECON Committee had considered the draft measures and did not intend to table a motion for resolu­ tion relating thereto under Rule 81.
