CAMPUS ALVS helps non-traditional students navigate college

By Ravyn Cullor @RCullor99

While many students start- ing this fall are transitioning from high school to college, many others have followed a di erent path to higher educa- tion. These students are known as non-traditional students. Lisa Chandler, assistant director of the Adult Learner and Veteran Services oƒ ce, says non-tradi- tional students can include stu- dents over 23, student-parents and any other student who feels they do not fi t with the tradi- tional-age student population. “We are extremely excit- ed to get another fall semes- ter underway,” ALVS Director Marc Barker wrote in an email to The Collegian. “Our is that adult learners will fi nd a community in ALVS that is de- signed to specifi cally meet their needs.” Chandler said many of the students they serve don’t nec- essarily need a di erent set of resources than traditional-age students, but often just don’t know how to access and use what is available.

FACILITIES Plans to build women’s sports complex are underway

By Tyler Meguire @TMeguire

If you build it, they will come. Instead of building a baseball fi eld in the middle of a cornfi eld, Colorado State will build a women’s athletic complex where the current soccer fi eld is — south of the Moby Arena parking lot. This project will cost $6.3-$6.5 million and will al- low the softball and soccer teams to have a proper practice and playing facility. CSU has allocated a $300,000 budget to pursue design possibili- ties and program plans for the proj- ect. The $300,000 will be funded through an extension of a student fee of $5.07 per semester. The Stu- dent Fee Review Board approved the measure the past calendar year. The initial $300,000 will put the University in a position where they can confi rm the costs of the project and develop a program plan for the site. University leadership will then request fi nal approval and put the project out for bid. University leadership has re- quested specifi c needs for the facili- ty. These needs include a gateway to the complex and an area for conces- sions and restrooms, team meeting Lexi Swenson (6) dribbles the ball up the fi eld during a women’s soccer game against Eastern Washington.COLLEGIAN FILE PHOTO space for both programs, lighting for the fi elds and permanent fan the Anderson Weight Room and seating. the Indoor Practice Facility have all helped programs with recruiting new athletes.
