“McCoy Reunion”

Is your best friend, partner, neighbour possibly a distant cousin? Are you related to the McCoys? Duggan, Ferris, Fraser, Fregon, Hedricks, Hollonds, Hunter, James, Madden, McCoy, Quigley, Rebbechi, Reid, Roth, Stove, Souter, Warner, Watson, Weston, Wilson, Zaetta Do any of these names appear in your family now or among ancestors? You may be descended from James and Charlotte McCoy (McCoid) who arrived in Port Albert in 1858 from Scotland, via Tasmania where they lived for two years. After James died in 1864, their older children all found their way to the Omeo area, followed by Charlotte and her younger children when her marriage to Robert Hewitt did not last. Their family of Sarah (Weston/Roth), Elizabeth (Fregon), Alexander, Charlotte (Souter or Soutter), James, William, Robert and Mary all lived in the Omeo region for at least part of their lives, some for all of it. Their descendants are now scattered all over and many are living in Gippsland, including the areas of Omeo, Bruthen, Bairnsdale, Maffra, Heyfield, Sale, Pakenham, , . James and Charlotte left Girvan, Ayrshire in Scotland with the surname McCoid, then sometime after arriving in Tasmania it became McCoy. On Sunday April 11 2021 there is a reunion of the descendants of James and Charlotte, from 10.30am at The Bruthen Inn, Main Street, Bruthen. Lunch and other refreshments can be purchased; photographs and the family tree displayed; stories and memories to share. This reunion was planned for April 2020 but was another casualty of the pandemic. We had over 150 registered to attend then; our current registrations are lower with some interstate family less likely to attend, but still a good crowd coming. If you believe you might be connected to the McCoy clan and would like to attend the reunion you can register interest via email to [email protected] providing name(s), contact details and branch of the family. To help with planning, catering and meeting Covid 19 requirements please register by March 31 or even just let us know you are interested. Lots of stories and family history insights can be found here https://mccoidblog.wordpress.com/

1982 McCoy Family Reunion, Bairnsdale Racecourse 39 years later so all those children in the front rows might like to catch up again
