Morein than Fort 100 of Lauderdalethe world’s best young bridge players -- all 26 or younger -- will gather in Fort Lau- derdale August 9-18 to compete for the World Junior Team championship. Seventeen teams from the United States (Teams I and II), Canada (Teams 1 and 2), Italy, Israel, Norway, Denmark, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Austra- lia and Central America (Colombia, Venezuela and Martinique) will vie for the championship. At stake is the Ortiz-Patiño Trophy, honoring Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, president emeritus of the . He inaugurated the championship in 1987 to promote interest in bridge among young people. The tournament is sponsored by the World Bridge Federa- tion. Jayne Thomas, former ACBL director from Florida (District 9) has been the major fund raiser for the hos- pitality that will be given the contestants.
