Annual Subscriptions Copies of the ‘‘Receipts and Payments Statement' year ending 31 July 2009’ were available to all present which also included a ‘Proposal for Financial Year to 31 July 2010’. Treasurer, Becky Weight, looking forward to 2010 indicated that overcoming losses should not be at the expense of the savings as these may be required for a capital investment in the future. However, to overcome the losses the club needed to make income work harder to support and generate activity. A number of proposals were put forward; promote new membership and retain existing members, social event fund raising, grants and donations increased, implement training fees or a ‘Training’ pass and raise subscriptions A joining fee was mentioned but Bob Dover explained that this had been discussed at Committee and decided that it might inhibit new membership. Bob continued, explaining that many options had been discussed and certain actions agreed. Next year measures could be made to increase profit but any actions may involve more workload on club officials. Becky proposed an increase in subscriptions (existing subscriptions shown in brackets): Seniors £30 (£25) Juniors £15 (£13) Family £50 (£38) Students & OAP’s £15 (£13) The increases prompted some discussion, Andy Nicholl suggested that relative to other clubs in the area the increases would make Bingley Harriers more expensive and Stuart Thompson expressed the view that a 20% increase is too much. Becky and Bob however felt that 20% would be needed to control costs and the new subscriptions were not excessive particularly when considering the excellent facilities available. Peter Dyer proposed acceptance of the increased subscriptions as they were entirely reasonable, seconded by Graham Smith. A vote was taken with 24 in favour of the proposal and 2 against. Becky’s proposal that serving members of the armed forces and their families are given Honorary membership (presently 2 or 3 members) was voted unanimously in favour and also Becky’s proposal that Alistair Brownlee should be given Life membership following his selection for the Olympics in 2008 and his recent World Championship success was voted unanimously in favour. 12. Membership of Associations Some discussion took place regarding the status of two or three associations but it was decided to leave the list as at present. 13. Vote of Thanks A Vote of Thanks was given to retiring officials who had given continued assistance throughout the year including Helen Cariss, Kerry Gilchrist, Bob Dover, Stuart McDonald and Lisa Spencer. Peter Dyer proposed a Vote of Thanks to Bob Dover, who retired as president after an outstanding seven years, having put his heart and soul in to the roll and leaving the club in a very good state. Any Other Business This item was not on the agenda, however David Anderson was allowed to raise a question regarding coaching where it seemed the coaching of groups was put before individuals and standards had declined over the years. Bob Dover pointed out that the Tuesday evening sessions showed how the club still had good individual members but there was certainly no complacency over any coaching activities. It was suggested from the floor that the club was not good at getting juniors and seniors together, but a start had been made with the once a month 5K club event, where the first event had seen a good turnout from all sections. The meeting closed at 20.40 pm with approximately 24 attendees. PRESIDENTS PIECE 2009
