Dreaming with Patients: Dreamwork Through a Psychoanalytic Lens 10/13/18 with Nanci Carter, PsyD, PsyD, LMFT

COURSE DESCRIPTION: have always been a vital and dynamic instrument for psychological treatment. The clinician’s ability to explore a variety of possible meanings in a increases access to the unconscious life of another, and thus enriches treatment – expanding the patient’s self- knowledge, psychological development and immediate contact with emotional experience – as well as reflecting the transferential aspects of the therapy relationship. This course is designed to introduce psychoanalytic approaches to the understanding of dreams utilizing clinical examples from the instructor and class participants. As always we want to maintain complete confidentiality of the patient material presented.

MATERIALS USED: 1) Dreams from instructor's clinical practice. 2) Article to pre-read and packet to be provided for further study.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1) To expand the ability to explore the meaning of clinical dream material through psychoanalytic techniques. 2) To identify possible and meanings in dreams 3) To link the dream narrative with patient’s history, associations and treatment process

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Nanci Carter, Psy.D., Psy.D., MFT (714) 422-7242 [email protected] Dr. Carter is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, practicing in Orange County for over 23 years. She has a Psy.D. in and a Psy.D. in Psychology. She is also certified in (Jungian) and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Her clinical work has been focused on dreams as the centerpiece of dynamic understanding, emotional experience and reflection of the analytic relationship.
