Hayley Wickenheiser is known as the best female hockey player in the world. Hayley Wickenheiser was born in Shaunavon, on August 12, 1978. Wickenheiser grew up learning to skate on a backyard rink her father made. She also went to the Olympics for two different sports. Wickenheiser was the youngest woman to play on Team . Hayley Wickenheiser was the first woman to get a point in a men's pro league. She has become a very important part of women’s hockey.

She played on a boy’s team when she was young. She always had to change separately from her teammates. One time, when she was young, the bathrooms were being renovated so she had to change in the front lobby of the rink. Wickenheiser was the best player on her team in most games. Wickenheiser was able to show that she can compete with the boys.

Hayley Wickenheiser has gone to the Olympics five times for . She has gone to the Olympics for two different sports, once for and the others for ice hockey. Hayley Wickenheiser won her first Olympic gold medal for ice hockey in the 2002 Olympics. She was the youngest woman to play ice hockey on Team Canada.

Wickenheiser played on Team Canada for 23 years. Team Canada and the USA sat in the top two spots for years. She made Team Canada at age 15. She was named best Goal scorer on Team Canada in the 2002 olympics. Wickenheiser was named best player in the 2006 Olympics .

Hayley Wickenheiser was the first woman to receive a point in a men's pro league. Coaches of other teams would put bigger and older players against her. But she knew she could handle it. She showed up to every practice and game.

Wickenheiser has had an impact on many Canadians and people all over the world, including both young and old athletes. She has changed the women's league tremendously over the years. It took hard work and dedication to get where she is today.
