The 34th MCA Photo Competition and Show was once again, a big success, thanks to the volunteers on the Photo Show Committee who helped pull it together and worked the show along with volunteers from the Involvement Committee to Meadows Resident Award greet visitors and answer questions. Best of Show was awarded Meadows resident Barnet Sack. The Meadows Resident Award went to Irene Kramer. This show will be the last for Irene and her husband, Bill, who are relocating to Michigan later this year; they have been members of the Photo Show Committee and active in producing the show for 18 years. Attendance hit a record this year with a total of 827 visitors, 316 of those coming on Sunday alone. Thanks to members of the Photo Show Committee—Barbara Bates, David Bates, Ellie Brewster, Mary Jo Gord, Bill and Irene Kramer, Judy Sargent, and Sally Twinem—for their dedication and hard work. The two-day Celebration of Fine Arts at the MCA on March 12 and 13 drew a record 592 visitors, both residents of The Meadows and others from outside our community—despite competition from the Sarasota Fine Arts Festival and the Lakewood Ranch Art Show! Thanks to all of you who attended for showing your support for our 20 diverse, talented artists who displayed their work. This year, we welcomed eight new artists to the event and hope to continue this trend. If you are a Meadows artist or an artist living outside The Meadows who is a member of The Meadows Country Club, we encourage you to display your original work. Just watch the December issue of The Meadoword for the application form. Thanks also to our wonderful greeters, whose friendly demeanors set the tone for the show, ensuring that all who Art Show Chairperson Pat Farrell’s attended were whimsical paintings are like poetry directed to the in nature display rooms.
